I am getting ready to do my door decorations and I was wondering if there is a preferable brand of magnetic paper. Is there a brand that doesn't work as well?

Thanks,
Kim

I just used the avery one and they all turned out awesome!!! The kids don't know I'm doing them so I'm going to surprise them!!

Whew...I'm glad you said Avery!! I just ordered 12 packs off Amazon on Thursday for our family cruise in June. I read good reviews and they had a killer price on it.

I didn't even think about the brand. I got Staples brand. I was just happy to find it!! I went back to get something else the following week and they were sold out.

Yeah...I bought that Staples brand too...at $13.49 for 4 sheets. I found the Avery at Amazon for $6.19 for 5 sheets. Needless to say, I'll be returning the Staples brand.

Ok. So I went to look and found the Avery 5 sheets for $6.19 + $7.50 shipping. That's $13.69 total. Or buy directly through Amazon for $10.68. Did you find a better deal?

I ordered a dozen of the 5 packs as we are doing magnets for 6 staterooms. The price per pack was $6.19, $7.50 for shipping. My total was $81.78 for 60 sheets. I've never done this before and wanted some extra WHEN I goof!!! Plus, maybe I'll have left overs to make for the next cruise!! Like I said, compared to the Staples magnetic paper, I felt like I was getting a deal with this. I'm sure someone can find it cheaper but I just went with this. Hopefully this will help someone.

Try Wal-Mart. They had a low price and shipping was only a few bucks. Someone else suggesting laminating the pages and sticking magnets on them. Does that work well too?

I purchased the Avery brand, 5 sheets for just over $12 at my local Office Max. I loved the way they printed up. The colors were rich and vibrant. They seemed to stick pretty well to my refrigerator door, so I hope they stick to the one on the ship.

You can order the Avery brand online at Walmart for 6 something a pack, and have them shipped to your local store. Done this way, you pay no shipping at all.

I winded up buying directly through Amazon for $10.68. I was already buying other stuff so shipping was free since I had over $25 purchase!

I've seen the laminated sheets and using magnets to stick them up but I like the idea of the magnets being any shape when using the printable sheets.

Unfortunately when I looked the other day at Walmart on-line it did not give me an option to ship to the store. Then when I decided to buy from there after seeing the price at Staples, I went back to Walmart on-line and it was out of stock. That is how I wound up at Amazon. Glad to hear the personal positive experience with the Avery paper.

Hobby Lobby has 3 sheets on sale for $4.12 per pack in their "magnet" section. I haven't tried them yet, but I'm sure they will be fine! (BTW They are $5.99 when they are not on sale.)

I haven't done our magnets yet, but am wondering exactly how this works? The sheet of magnetic paper goes into your printer and when it comes out, you just cut the image out (example, mickey ears for on top of our room #)?

I have done this many times but once I bit the bullet and bought magnetic paper, I was much happier with the results.

I never thought to look at Hobby Lobby! Good to know in case I run out of magnet paper!! :thumbsup2

That's exactly how it works! :cheer2:

Thank you for all the replies. You have given me a bit to think about where to get my magnet supplies.

I used the Avery brand for our last cruise. The photo quality looked great and anything larger than 1/4 sheet hung well on our door. We had a window so no huge breeze from an open balcony door though.

Since some of our pictures were smaller than the full sheet of mag paper, I borrowed my mom's large paper cutter so it would be a nice straight cut. I cut down the scraps and glued them on the back of my Home Depot Mickey heads. Even though I put small magnets in each ear and in the head part, they kept falling down. Everytime the door would close, they'd fall or at least slide down a lot. After a while I got tired of rearranging them.
Now they're on the side of my spare freezer. :thumbsup2

I loved the Mickey heads and even downloaded the Disney font and printed our names on them. Then ds8 had the idea to put 1 letter on each HDMH and spell out D-I-S-N-E-Y M-A-G-I-C.

Next time I will still use the Avery sheets for the big ones but will find something stronger for the Mickey heads.

I saw lots of laminated papers on other doors and that looked nice too. I don't have access to a laminator and found the magnetic sheets very easy to work with. First I set my printer to 'Fast Draft' and printed on reg. paper just to see how it would look. Then put the mag paper in and change the printer to 'best quality' and looked great. I carefully laid them all out to dry overnight.
I did buy extra in case I messed up but thankfully didn't need it all. Leaves more for next time! :goodvibes

We used packs from WalMart and Micheal's. Maybe even some from Business Depot but I can't remember now. I like the mod posting a link of where she bought her sheets. At work we use a fair bit of these but I have no idea what the shipping is. We buy from mastermagnetics. I do remember when we buy 250 sheets we get them for about 70 cents a sheet. The only sad part is having to buy an ink jet printer to be able to use them LOL
