Which is cheaper?

Is it cheaper to book flights through the airline directly? Or just have it added to my Disney vacation package? Does Disney charge more for airfare?

Advantage of booking the airfare on your own: You can wait for the fare to come down and do split second timing of your booking.

Advantage of booking the airfare throudh Disney: They may have blocks of seats set aside at a lower price that you could not access by booking directly.

Ohh so I may still be able to get a slight discount booking directly through Disney.

I'm probably going to book as soon as airfare becomes available since the price only goes down so much from JFK/LGA/EWR--->MCO. Right now, I'm finding $99 each way. Not terrible. And I need 5 tickets.

We booked our air on our own. The Disney options from Boston non-stop on Delta were limited; not all Delta flights were available through them. We ended up on Jet Blue and that airline was not an option thru Disney.

I think as a rule it is cheaper to book your own flights. Not to mention the flexibility you have to do it on your own. I have always booked our own air. As another poster mentioned you can also use the lower cost carriers, SW, JetBlue, Airtran, etc. as alternatives and I don't believe Disney will consider them.

When I checked the prices for flights with my package when I was researching options, the flights that they offered were identical to the flights that were available directly through the airlines. Prices, times, everything was identical. They don't offer every airline though and it was a pain to get the times I wanted. IMO there's no benefit to booking the flight through Disney but there are drawbacks.

Thanks for the info. We've been looking into Continental from Newark or JetBlue from JFK. We have had horrible experiences on Delta and would NEVER consider then again.

I was not aware that Disney didn't consider the lower cost carriers. I know Airtan does not have nonstop flights from NYC (at least I haven't found any), but JetBlue has lots and so does SW from Islip, LI.

We booked Airtran directly through Disney. We have a nonstop from Harrisburg, PA to Orlando and nonstop back. It was the same price if we booked through them or Disney and my dh and I went through Disney so everything was together.

It might be easier to have everything in one place.

The first two times I worked through a travel agent and had her do everything - then the next year I did it myself through Disney and let them handle everything.

Each time, I got a flight with a layover that was never the time I wanted.

I now book my own flights; I always get non-stop and I choose my own times.

Seems like it may be easier to keep everything together, but I'd have more flexibility buying airfare separately. It's too bad Disney doesn't include JetBlue.
