Going on 4day March 6-10th and deciding on excursions. My mother has not been snorkeling before, so I am wondering which is better snorkeling (or are both fine?) the trip in Nassau, Caribbean Queen or Seahorse Snorkel Adventure on Castaway Cay? Thank you for your time.

We are going on May 26th and would love to hear the answer. This will be both mine and my daughter first cruise.

Seahorse Catamaran Snorkle Excursion .... I think there is also a Snorkle Lagoon that is of no extra charge. (unless you rent equipment).

I have not snorkeled in Nassau, but would think that it is better snorkeling there. Castaway Cay is nice, but unless you get out there early (like one of the first people), you have to swim through alot of stirred up sand making it virtually impossible to see anything until about probably 60 to 100 yards before seeing anything. Once you get to the clear ocean water it is amazing. There is a ton of sea life. My DS8 was very excited to go snorkeling, but got freaked out that he could not see anything (and I mean nothing, I was right next to him and holding his hand and could not see him). I have snorkeled before (only once) and it did get me pretty nervous too at first. Snorkeling at the adult beach was much clearer, but we did not see much sea life, although I think that alot of this had to do with the hurricanes that had hit right before we were there. Either way, I think you will enjoy it as well as your DM.

I agree with American Scrapper :) The sand at the snorkel lagoon gets so stirred up you can't see a thing. Although the visablity got better the further you went...it still wasn't super clear. And I didn't see the amazing sea life like I was expecting. The adult beach area...was alot clearer...but like American Scrapper mentioned there wasn't much sea life at all. My only other snorkeling experience has been in Hawaii...and CC was nothing like over there. I was kind of wondering about the "Seahorse Snorkel Adventure" in that...I wonder if they take you out some place else...around a reef or something...someplace where there wouldn't be as many people and you wouldn't have the stirred up sand. if so it may be worth it.

I did not think the snorkeling at Castaway Cay was very good at all. It sounds like maybe they have a new excursion though...taking you someplace by boat?

Snorkling is definetly better in Nassau. I love Castaway Cay but snorkling is not its best feature.

Also known as stuartcove dot com?

It looks great and Passporter gave it a rating of "9"

Just trying to decide on excursions!!! :confused3

Snorkeling at CC was disappointing.
Snorkeling in Nassau is much better. The best snorkeling I ever did in the Bahamas was a hotel excursion (we were staying on Paradise Island.) A guy in a power boat took us out to a reef, gave us snorkeling equipment and in we jumped! I saw tons of beautiful fish, plus a moray eel! Now remember, the mask magnifies things so I overreacted to seeing the eel and almost swallowed the mouthpiece! :earboy2: The reef was nowhere near shore, so you'd have to be a confident swimmer. I don't remember the name of the excursion but any that take you to a reef would be fine, I'm sure.
However if you're not up to jumping into the middle of the ocean and would prefer to be closer to land, I recommend Blue Lagoon. The windward side of the island has very good snorkeling. Just keep in mind, if the weather makes the waves choppy, they will close that side of the island to snorkelers because of the rocks. But if it's a nice calm day, it's a very beautiful spot to snorkel. :sunny:
