we are going down in nov-dec 08. there will be 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 kids aged 17,17,16, and 13.

we are going to stay in resort for 2 nights, go on cruise for 4 nights, then return and stay 2 more nights at wdw.

i currently have us booked in 2 studios for the stay, the adults in 1, the kids in the other.

do you think its better to change to a 2 bedroom unit for all of us, or leave as it is? we dont normally spend a lot of time in the rooms, mainly in the parks. i know the 2 bedrooms looks bigger, but it costs more points as well, about 42 more at SSR for the 4 nights, and more if we move to BCV, VWL or BWV-which i hope to do when the 7 month window comes up.

A 2BR unit is really three rooms---in addition to the two bedrooms/bathrooms, you get the kitchen and living room as well. We make significant use of the kitchen in the mornings for breakfast. My kids are younger, and probably go to bed earlier than yours, but I also like having a living room available after they go to bed. As an early riser, I can also wander out to the LR while the rest of the family sleeps to get started on breakfast and coffee. Finally, the 2BR will have the whirlpool tub in the master bath.

For my family, the kitchen is important enough that it wouldn't be vacation without it.

With all of the kids in 1 studio, and the adults in another, ALL of the kids will wind up doubling up for sleeping. If you got a 2 bedroom, you'd still have the same number of beds on the "studio side" on the 2 bedroom, but also have access to the pull-out couch on the "1 bedroom side" of the 2 bedroom, allowing some of the kids to sleep by themselves.

If the sleeping arrangements on the cruise are the same (adults in one stateroom, kids in the other) I guess it isn't that big a deal, as the staterooms are MUCH smaller! A possible compromise would be to maybe get into a 2 bedroom for those last 2 days at WDW as a special "treat".

If you look into AKV, you even get an additional pull-out chair in the 2 bedroom, so ALL the kids would have their own bed. :thumbsup2

We did a trip with guests very similar to this last year and used a 2BR. We just found that the extra space, in-room laundry facilities and other amenities were well worth it.

For just a couple nights at a time, the studio plan could work but there is no guarantee the studios will be anywhere near each other.

And if I'm not mistaken, Disney requires at least one person 18 years of age or older to be in each room. Technically, you would have to put one of the adults in each studio. Not trying to start a debate on that but just calling out the "rules" as I understand them. Good luck on switching resorts if you choose to do so. :)

For the space, get a dedicated 2 bedroom. You get 3 beds and a sleep sofa. Plus you get a full kitchen, washer and dryer and about 35% more space.

The two studios will get you 2 beds and 2 sleep sofas.

Also, you must have at least one adult 18 years old in each room.

I think at least one adult has to occupy each room. I don't the kids could all share a studio and have the two adults in another studio. I think you would either have to divide the adults or get a two bedroom.

Keep in mind that there's no guarantee the studios will be close to each other.

I would do the dedicated 2 bedroom at SSR or any 2 bedroom at OKW because of the 2 Q's in the second bedroom. I do not think that leaving the kids alone in a studio is possible. Even if Disney would let you do it, I do not think it is prudent.

All 17 year olds are not created equal. I do think a 2 br after the cruise would be a nice option.

I know there is no guarantee, but if you book the rooms together in the same reservation, don't they make every effort to put the rooms close togther? They wouldn't make one room on one end and the other on the complete other end would they?

They make an effort, but there are no guarantees. We've had rooms next to each other. But we've also had them in different buildings at OKW.

Definately the 2 bedroom in my opinion. You will have a lot more space, and be able to spend more time together. We have groups from time to time where we'd need a 2 bedroom and a studio for the extra and we always all ended up at the end of the day conversing or snacking in the kitchen or living room of the two bedrooms. Plus as others have mentioned, as much as Disney tries to keep rooms close together, sometimes they cannot. You could be in different floors of the same building, or even different buildings. You have to decide if that is risk you think is worth taking.

You need someone at least 18 years of age to be in each room. Thus you would not be able to get your kids in one studio and the parents in the other studio. You will need to go with the 2-bedroom.

Add my vote for the 2BR, and try to waitlist for one with 2Q where available.

Another thing to consider is a Land/Sea package. Disney has been having a good sale recently, and some Nov/Dec 08 dates are still around $700pp. You could save a little crowding into 2 rooms/cabins, but it's probably worth it to just get 3.

OP, please see PM.

if it was me
I would do the 2 studios before the cruise and a 2 bedroom after
I think to wards the end more space would be nice

I think you would enjoy the 2 bedroom much more. We always travel with the same size group you are and the 2 bedrooms always work out great.
