I'm planning to buy a good pair of running shoes, not the ones used for track running but the usual warn up shoes, which would a be a good choice?

Go to runnersworld.com and take the test to see if you have a high arch, normal arch or flat foot. Then find the type of shoe you need and then use their shoe finder and reviews to guide you...

You will likely end up with Asics or Brooks... Maybe Missuno

Likely not nike...

However each brand has difrent types so you need to find out what will work for you...

It totally depends on your foot....all shoes fit differently. I absolutely hate Nike and refuse to wear them (I don't like their company period), but as much as I like adidas, they just don't fit my feet right. Asics is the same...I get the worst blisters with those shoes. I couldn't wear those for long periods at a time, however, I know people who swear by them.

Personally, I'm a huge New Balance fan...my husband and me both wear them for working out/running, and I also have a pair for work (I'm a nurse) and have never had any problems with them.

However, again, it totally depends on your feet.

I agree that it totally depend on an individual's foot...I have really found Asics to work well for me, the one time I bought New Balance I had a horrible experience...yet my Dh swears by New Balance...just totally depends.

I would recommmend checking out a shop that specializes in running in your area. I went to a local one and they really took a lot of time to determine which type of shoe would be best for me....he had me run on a treadmill and video taped it (feet only!:) ) so we could watch together the way my feet hit (turns out I go toe-heel--didn't know that 'till I watched the video!), asked me what type/how much running I do, etc. With that info he was able to pick out a selection of shoes for me to try on, and I was able to go on the treadmill with those too to see how they worked. He said usually he tells people to go outside the shop and run around, but the night I was there it was pouring rain...

I have about a C width foot.....D (or wide fit) are too wide, but sometimes B is too narrow if the shoes/brand tend to fit narrow. Nike and Addidas run narrow for me, but Reebok's fit much better. However, I have since found shoes I prefer to those.....but I walk, not run.....I love Merrill shoes.

Go to a store that really fits running shoes. If you don't have an independent one in your town, look for a Fleet Feet or something that really knows shoes. Not like The Foot Locker. The best shoe is the best shoe for your foot. Not necessarily the one with the best advertising budget, or the kind your sister wears, or what people here like.

My son is an avid runner and participates in Cross Country and Track. We don't have a store near us but we make the two hour drive so that he can get fitted for shoes that are going to be best for his weight distribution on his foot, his running style, etc. It is well worth the time and money to have him fitted for trainers and spikes that will suit him well.

I love Asics. My favs are the 2140's. Of course, they come out with a new 'upgrade' each year, but I have ALWAYS love the 2100 series.

Mizzuno... Hate these shoes, I don't think they offer support and are not a well made shoe if you get hot spots. I have heard MANY runners talk about how bad these shoes are.

Brooks are good shoes, but I do not like how thin and 'meshy' they are. The heel is also too narrow for me.

Saucony... some people really like these... they feel cushiony... although, the cushion does break down quickly. I also think they are too high in the arches for me.

Addidas are NOT running shoes, not matter how they spin it. IMO

Nike... welll.... they are trying. I had a pair of NIKE in HS (long time ago) and I liked them. But now I don't care for them. They are not comfortable to me and I think NIKE is trying for my "flash" than usability...

New Balance.... I personally do not like how they fit me.

Everyone is different and looking for something special in a shoe. I would try going to one of the sports stores that do a video foot analysis. This is a free service and you can find the can that best fits your foot and needs.

You don't ness. have to buy them there, just remember the type and brand and size. I buy mine from the net... But I always go try them on in the store first.

Good luck and Happy running!

It totally depends on your foot. And your foot will change over time. Growing up I couldn't wear Nikes. Now I can and they fit me great. But only certain models fit great. My husband just bought some Vibram Five Fingers Running Shoes and really likes them so far http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/index.htm You can get them at REI and other smaller retailers.

I second everything in this post.

It's really depends on you, whatever feels best on your foot. Do you have a local running store? They can fit you and should have an area you can run around in to try them out

I love Asics and have had mixed success with New Balance, but I agree with those who said you should get fitted at a running store. I bought my first pair at the store that fit me, but now I just order online.

I agree about having to try them on. Especially because even within one brand, different shoes fit differently. I am a casual jogger and tried on about 20 pairs of different brands recently. I LOVE asics but tried on several styles until I finally found one pair that really felt great and cushiony. I have used them twice now and absolutely love them. No blisters, sore spots or other breaking in issues. Felt great both days & makes me want to exercise to wear them! well sorta...

We went to our local running store and were fitted. BEST decision we ever made! I ended up with Pearl Izumi shoes and absolutely love them. I have a very high arch and these are so comfortable. The company also has a wonderful lifetime guarantee that they stand behind. I got a new pair of shoes when there was a defect in my soles, no hassle whatsoever.

If possible, go get fitted. You won't regret it. :thumbsup2

For my feet, New Balance are what work best.

I loved the Addidas Mega Bounce shoe. I have very flat fleet and the worked great for me. But of course they stopped making Mega Bounce.

as already mentioned, your best bet is to go get fitted at a running store. I tried Asics because I had heard they were great for running and they were awful for me. I had Adidas that were ok but this past time I went to Marathon Sports and got fitted with a pair Brooks that are wonderful! I have very high arches and narrow feet; these are perfect for me.

Another vote for hitting the running store. You really won't know what's best for you unless you do that. I won't wear anything other than the Asics 2100 series, but they aren't the best for everyone.

I think it would be well worth a drive if there isn't a running shoe store near you. Every foot is different. Our youngest in fact has a club foot and we have to go to a running shoe store to try to find athletic shoes. There is a 2 1/2 shoe size difference in his feet and its worth it to have someone else fit his foot rather than me! ;)

love runnersworld.com, and my whole family of runners wear Asics--different feet and different styles of shoes
