Making a short trip in January (husband and myself). If we just want to visit Epcot and HS on this trip, are any hotels in walking distance to both (including Swan or Dolphin)?

I have stayed and walked from Yacht club to both. HS is a little more of a trek for Yacht Club and Beach than Epcot. Epcot back gates are right around the corner. IT seems like Swan and Dolphin are more midway between Epcot and HS.

Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk -- and Swan & Dolphin.
Yep. 5 minute walk to Epcot from Beach/Yacht, about a 20 minute walk to the gate at Hollywood Studios. There's also a boat to/from the resorts and Hollywood Studios so you don't have to walk if you don't want to. We typically walk unless there is a boat arriving since the travel time is about the same.

I think Boardwalk is the most "central" because you can cut through the back of the resort, past the pool for the walkway to HS, and walk out front, over a small bridge and into Epcot. About 15 minutes each way. The boat to and from Epcot is first stop each way, and the longest ride is HS from Boardwalk.

We are Boardwalk lovers, and have only stayed at BCV, which is an awesome short walk to Epcot but the walk to the boat to go to HS is probably the same time, plus then the boat ride. But if you plan to spend most of your time at Epcot for eating and drinking, then go with Beach Club/BCV.

When you plan to go in January may also play a factor in your decision. If it's between Jan 3 and Jan 8, you are going to run into the marathon dates and might find it hard to book something.

I agree with sharadoc. BWI/BWV are the most centrally located if you want to walk to both DHS and EP. We stay there a lot for this very reason! If you want to be a little closer to the DHS path, consider booking BWV.

BC is the closest to EP (like, really really close!), but is a little farther to DHS. If staying at YC/BC, we'll walk to EP, but boat to DHS unless it's evening and we are walking back from DHS and want to visit the Boardwalk.

Swan is very close to the DHS walking path and Swan/Dolphin are the last boat stop going to DHS and first stop coming back. Dolphin is kind of the furthest from both parks (at least it feels that way). It has this windy path you have to go on before you start walking past YC to head to EP.

Anyway! Long winded way to say, yes, all 5 are close to EP and DHS, but BC, Swan and Boardwalk are most walkable with Boardwalk getting my vote for most centralized! And it's a GREAT resort!
