I am looking at the Embassy Suite in the Historical District and the Hampton in the Historical district. Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? We have points where we can stay free and will need to make this trip on a budget. I was wondering if anyone has information on these hotels.

These two hotels are right next door to each other. They are right on the edge of the historic district, so it will be a little bit of a walk from either one of them. I prefer the Embassy Suites. They have the managers reception at night, and the great breakfast in the morning.

I have stayed at the embassy suites in charleston near the airport.. I LOVE ALL embassy suites.. the breakfast is all you can eat and it is GREAT.. the best breakfast I have ever had by far.. so I'm sure the embassy suite in the historic district is awesome as well... Have fun in charleston. It is a beautiful city.

I did not realize they were side by side. I just thought with different addresses they were not close. Now I know they are beside each other but on seperate streets. If that is the case then I will probably stay at the Embassy. As others have said they have the manager reception and the nice breakfast. We normally stay at Embassy or Doubletree. Our Rewards Card is pretty high so we get the same at the Doubletree as we get at the Embassy.

There is a Doubletree Guest Suites right down by the market also-literally steps away. I LOVE Charleston-my 2 favorite places are Disney World & Charleston. HAVE FUN!!:)

I know nothing about Charleston so is the market in the Historical District? I did not look at it because I was unsure where it was located.

Between the Embassy and the Doubletree which is in the better position?

The Doubletree is in a much better position, as far as touring goes. There is little activity near the Embassy Suites Historic District. If you are going for budget, I would check the cost of parking because it could be very high at that Doubletree.

I've already looked into that, and in doing so I remembered I had looked at the Doubletree because the parking is $19 a day. I like the location of the Doubletree but the Embassy does have the manager reception. Either place I receive brreakfast for free. However with the Doubletree I do not get the free manager reception and we do take advantage of this a lot. The Doubletree takes less points then the Embassy does. Decisions decisions.

Does anyone know if one is nicer inside then the other? I know the Doubletree offers several nice options to eat.

The Embassy Suite isn't that far out of the way. Plus it is a few steps from the visitors center where the trolley stops, so it is very convenient--I believe tat Piggly Wiggly sells multi-day transportation tickets.

The Embassy Suites is in the old Citadel, so it feels very historic. The Doubletree does appear a little nicer, EB also charges a parking fee--I think it is about $15.

All three of the Hilton brand hotels in the historical distict charges for parking. We will only be there 2 nights so I can do $19 in parking fees. I do like the option of the trolley being close to the Embassy Suites.

The markets are smack dab in the middle of the historical district. They are great. When I lived there we would go down there often to look around. Make sure you take a horse drawn buggy tour. Go to the Battery and see all the old cannons. some times you can see dolphins off the battery too. I dont know about the hotels....We never stayed downtown. WE always stayed in Mt. Pleasant. Lived in Goose Creek. Check out Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant. Its right across the bridge from downtown.....Have a blast.

Wow thanks for the information

Just about every hotel in downtown Charleston charges a parking fee. There simply isn't much parking there.

I'd say the Embassy Suites would be more difficult for touring, but once you get near the Market and the Battery, you can walk all of historic Charleston.

stay at the old Citadel, Embassy Suites. worth the history lesson.

Every hotel I have looked at charges a parking fee. We did look at one B&B that was $400 a night but we decided to just use our points. They are just sitting there and they need to be used. lol

I am really hoping for a nice romantic time when we visit.

I am looking into a progressive dinner one night, or a cruise dinner. I am unsure. I know I want to do a haunted tour. lol

You can always drive from the Embassy suites to the historic part. Out of the Emb suites front parking lot, Take a right onto Meeting St, Crossing Calhoun --drive straight to Market St. It will be on your left.
3-4 minutes tops. (Walking takes much longer.) Charleston Place Hotel will be on your right. Look for parking garage signs. (Ther is one at 200 Meeting St--on your left-)

If you find a place on the street to feed the meter- Parking will cost you some change. DO NOT LET THE METER RUN OUT. The meter reader will not be kind, even a couple of minutes late.
Take a lot of quarters.:goodvibes

If you need ideas for restaurants, let me know.

Oh yeah- be aware that Charleston has a ton of one way streets and can be confusing for a tourist.

Have fun in my Hometown. Wish I still lived there.

For now, my choice is the Doubletree. I am curious if they have done any renovating though. Some of the reviews I have read on Trip Advisor were not kind due to the need of renovating. However, one did read she was given a renovated room. I think closer to the time we are going and prior to using my points, I will give them a call and see what is going on with the hotel.

Honestly, I do not want to have to drive too much when on this vacation. Of course we will always have that option since we will have our car.

I am looking into restaruants though. I have read a lot about restaruants in Charleston and to be frank it does get confusing.

I really am looking into a carriage tour, a ghost tour and either a progressive dinner and/or a dinner cruise. Actually for the dinner cruise it is very cheap. Do you know anything about the dinner cruise?

I would love some ideas for a progressive dinner. I was thinking of going to Venue Inn for the rooftop bar for before dinner drinks, have no clue for dinner. I do not want to spend a huge amount of money for dinner but would like something nice enough. I guess I do not need a 5star place to eat. Is there a nice place for good dessert. Someone mentioned a place on tripadvisor but it looked very commercial. I do not care for commerical style places. We love local haunts.

Where is a nice place for some music or a band in the evening? I am not talking piano.

I tried to be specific enough to give you what we are looking for. I thought that might help the most. Thanks.
