Which hotel for our wedding week?

We are taking our first DVC trip the week of our wedding next year! Lots of chaos going on there hahaha.

We are buying directly through Disney, so our home resort will be the Poly. We are getting married at the Swan & Dolphin but not staying there. I thought about doing a split stay, but it seems like that would be way too much chaos. We plan on flying in Saturday, getting married Monday, and then remaining in Disney for that week (flying out Sunday).

Any recommendations for our first DVC stay? Should we stick with our home resort?

Don't do a split stay . . . you don't need to deal with logistics. You're staying at great resort. Enjoy. And Congratulations

I would pick whichever DVC resort appeals to you most. If you want one closer to Swan/Dolphin, I would, personally consider BWV. It's so lovely, the most romantic of the EP resorts IMHO and is right next to the Swan.

The Poly is also gorgeous and is really just a cab or uber ride away from Swan/Dolphin. For me, it would come down to the atmosphere you are looking for in a honeymoon resort and how far you want to be from Swan/Dolphin.

I definitely would NOT Split Stay..Especially @ S&D for your Honeymoon or premarriage....

:idea:Poly, would be absolutely perfect I'm sure, but I'm guessing you'll be getting 2 rooms for the 1st night? Until Your MARRIED?:teacher::teeth:

Just sayin--->:rolleyes1

Depending on time of year, booking home resort at 11 months is essential; I see it is an October wedding. That is a time of year you absolutely have to book home resort at 11, and switching to another studio at 7 months may be difficult.

I wouldn't want to screw around with waitlists at 7 months for a wedding. Stay at your home resort. Book at 11 months. You will not be able to book BCV or BWV at 7 months; VGF studios will be long gone, and your best 7-month shots will be Saratoga, Old Key West and AKV, but even those may require a wait list at 7 months.

Definitely keep Poly!!! I'm getting married at WDW in June and we're staying at AKL because it's cheaper but Poly is the best resort! Gorgeous views of MK from the beach, view of wishes, tiki torches, monorail easy to Epcot with walk to TTC, great dining around.... plus since it's your home resort you know you can stay there again and always be reminded of your wedding/ honeymoon. You won't regret staying there :)

Poly would be a great place to stay and being so close to MK is awesome. I would go with that since it is your home resort and easier to book. At the 7 month window if you want to see if Beach Club is available you can always check and see.

I wouldn't split stay either, having to worry about moving and getting re-settled in will just add less time to enjoy yourselves! Congratulations!

If you haven't yet bought, ask your guide to make your wedding Poly reservation. That 1st reservation is the only think owners can negotiate when buying.

The only thing i am wondering is if you are getting married at the S &D would it be easier to stay there for the first couple of nights? I'm just thinking of you getting ready and trying to get to S&D for the ceremony and after. I know uber is readily available or you could arrange a car service to bring you there/back. are there other family going down there with you if so where are they staying?

I think poly would be a great place to stay and a beautiful resort so you can't go wrong there.
I know you mentioned buying direct and this isn't the place for that topic, but have you checked out the resale market ( i happened to look the other day and was kind of surprised at the pricing -- seems they have decreased a bit from when i last looked and much less than what direct is. You can still finance a resale too if that is needed. You have plenty of time before your 11 months window opens to book so you could possibly put in an offer now (or soon) on a resale and have the contract in 3 months - which would be in plenty of time before needing to book in November for Oct 2018.

Good luck with all the planning!

Thank you! We considered S&D as an option too. We are in the process of looking into buying Poly now, but FI mentioned a few times to just wait until the wedding week to buy and stay at S&D so we aren't wasting points. I grew up with a friend who's parents had DVC, so I have been a little spoiled by going on all her mini trips with her to the DVC hotels all over the place throughout the years.

Just an FYI, they might as incentive still give out double the points....Meaning last years points...So technically u wouldn't be wasting :confused3 any? They did this with us, so w/ my 160 pt. contract , we initially started w/ 320 pts.

True this was resale w/ Disney @ SSR, not sure if that makes difference or not?

I don't think you would be wasting points staying at poly I was just thinking of the logistics of getting there for your ceremony.

If you time your purchase correctly you could make your direct purchase in September with an October UY -- then you would get the 2016 points with prorated maintenance fees for only one month ( i believe that is the case) your guide will make it seem like you are getting free points but essentially you are getting the points for the UY you are buying in. Also, you have the guide bank those points into your 2017 UY so come 11 months mark in Nov you book your Oct poly stay. In this senario you would have plenty of points to use for your honeymoon/wedding.
