Which home resort did you choose & why??

I chose WLV.....cause I fell in love with the lodge....

I wanted to guarantee a stay at holiday time at the lodge....
It is so special....

I want to try them all though....figure out where to add on....:goodvibes

I tried SSR....loved it...
Next is BCV.....I have a feeling I will love them all.
I appreciate the differences in all the resorts

There were a lot of factors that put many resorts on the fence for us, but in the end the extra 12 years at SSR was the deciding one!

DH and I bought into SSR last August when it was the one they were promoting and offering a discount. We will be staying there for our 1st time in just 2 weeks! :cloud9: We are strongly considering adding on to another resort, but don't know which one yet. We've been holding out hope that a DLR DVC would be announced by now, but no such luck yet! ;)

I'm considering buying into DVC, and I just wanted to know everyone's opinions in terms of the resorts. Cleanliness, value, closeness to the parks, etc.
Thanks to all:thumbsup2

We went with SSR back in 2004. reasons, very attractive incentives for presale, full 50 year lease and when its all said and done they are all disney property so figured we couldn't go wrong. Plus given the times of year we travel we haven't had trouble booking at other resorts at the 7-month window. So we have been lucky and have stayed at some of the other DVC properties.

Also our first stay was at SSR, it is really nice and if it were our only option we could stay for the next 47 years and be quite content.:) I don't think you can go wrong at any of them, but if your travel plans are during peak travel times and a certain resort is a must, you might be happier owning where u want to stay.

We chose SSR for many reasons.
Price at the time
Extra years
We are empty nesters and want to relax sometimes and not do a park.
DTD is so close that we can get a bus there to anywhere.
The zero entry pool.
Plus this ensures Disney vacations for my beautiful grandson.

We chose Vero Beach - owners there since 2000. We bought at Vero Beach because I've always wanted to have ocean front property and this allowed me to have it for whatever 400 points will get us once we retire. We also own at Marriott's Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach Shores, which will give us 4 weeks when using our lock-off, so we will have a nice stretch of time ocean front when we head down during the winter months. Until that time, we have used our points at Vero 2x, HHI 1x and at OKW 3x, and the remaining usage was via Interval International for trips to Kauai, Oahu and Mexico. :)

We also purchased SSR (2005) for many of the same reasons.
SSR is a very comfortable resort
Also:
Due to work commitments we normally can only look at a 7-8 month future window so the additional 4 month home resort booking advantage didn't factor in. So far we have had no problems booking at SSR, HHI, VB, BCV, and OKW at 7 months except for Christmas 2008. We did get what we wanted at SSR for Christmas 2008 vs looking at the others. Also, the lower maintenance fees means a little less on the annual fees.

We just passed ROFR on our first contract.
We chose HH because we knew we wanted a small contract at either VB or HH along with a larger contract at either SSR or AKV since we are young and can hopefully take advantage of the extra years.

We found the right contract with banked pts that we were able to pay cash for and get our feet wet.

We have never been to HH, but did a bunch of research here and online to get a feel for it, and it's right up our alley. We love the outdoors, the architecture of the area, wildlife, and the fact that there are things to do in the area besides the beach.

We also knew that this would be a place that dh and I would want to vacation at even after the kids are grown. We wanted to have the 11month window as it's a small resort and with more DVC members, we were worried it would be harder to get into in the future.

We can't wait to take our first trip home!

We just passed ROFR on our first contract a week ago. We chose OKW for several reasons. We love the look of it, first of all. We like that it sounds like the rooms are bigger. We are a young family, so the studio at OKW is perfect for us for now, with the two Queen size beds. We poured over the books and websites trying to decide, and OKW just felt right. We will be adding on to our contract at OKW, and we are also part of the club hoping for a DVC at the Grand Californian. If that comes to pass, we will buy a contract there with enough points for a week, because we LOVE DLR as well.

We looked at DVC as something for us to enjoy for many, many years. We realized that our lifestyle would change and evolve as time goes on. My son is growing up, and I know that one day I'll blink my eyes and he'll be an adult -- how did that happen so quickly????

Anyway, we wanted a place that we could enjoy in many different ways, and for us, SSR was the hands-down winner.

When we're with our son, it's close enough to ALL the parks (not just one or two), including Disney Quest and waterparks... It's got great water play areas, arcades, etc. DTD is right there.

When we're empty nesters (sooner for all of us than we think), there's DTD clubs and restaurants, the SPA (Ranked as one of the best by Conde Nast Traveller magazine), the golf courses, easy access to other resort restaurants via DTD buses, a quiet and relaxing get-away, and still easy access to all the parks (we like ALL the parks, not just one or two).

I think that many people purchase one resort because they have young kids and like SAB or the clown slide. But children grow up so quickly.

If you just want DVC for a short period of time when your kids are young, that's one thing. For us, we're in it for many years, and SSR is the best resort (IMO) for that. This is reflected in that it seems to be more of an adult place than a kid's paradise. There's still great stuff for kids, but so much for adults as well.

Just my 2 cents...

Plus, low main fees (for now) great buyin specials, everything is new, and the extra years help too!!!!

We originally bought OKW in 1993 and have added on to OKW through resales. At the time drove from NJ for a 2 week vacation and loved the fact that we could park in front of our "Home" and be inside without all of the walking.

We have since bought at Boardwalk, Beach club, and SSR. We now go to WDW 4 weeks a year. While we (DH and I) love OKW for the size of the rooms and laid back atmosphere our one DD and her DH use our BWV points for their special spring break getaway. Our youngest DD who is a CM uses our points to stay at Vero with her friends.

ALL of the DVC locations offer something special. We use BCV for our new years ECV trip because of location. We use SSR for our DD to go to Vero.
We LOVE OKW because the rooms are bigger than the other DVC locations. We stay in a 2BR every July, DD and her DH along with CM DD stay with us

We bought SSR for our first two contracts because it is what they were selling at the time and the incentives were great. We just did a 100 point add on at VWL this week :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: because I am completely and totally in love with the resort and DH and DS like it very much too.

We are very likely going to sell one of the SSR contracts next summer after our big family vacation and if we get used to having the extra 100 points we may replace one SSR with another VWL or BCV (my second favorite).

Yes, we know that the length of time on the contract is shorter, but as DVC grows I feel it will get harder and harder to get outside your home resort at the 7 month window. The incentives for AKV were great, but VWL is where my heart lies and I want to maximize our future vacations there.

SSR because it was available and the promo was too good to turn down.:lmao:
