Trying to plan family's first foray to WDW. Have checked out multiple books from the library. I tend to go with the Unofficial Guide, but was wondering if I could get any input here as to the best book to follow? Or should I pony up for Tour Guide Mike's site?
Thanks for any opinions!

I've been impressed with Unofficial Guide and Tour Guide Mike. I didn't try PassPorter because it seemed a little TOO controlling for me, at a glance. :) But I've seen plenty of folks that liked it too.

Get both!!!! UG and PassPorter. I consult them both daily. PassPorter: very well organized. UG: TONS of information. I couldn't do without either one. You can have them both shipped to you for FREE from B&N or Amazon. If you have a B&N membership, you can get a better deal (I did).

Definitely the Unofficial Guide! It's perfect for newbies. I would advise getting the most recent. I went to WDW three times before reading UG. It really opened my eyes.

I really like the Passporter. I have read others but this one gave me alot of tips and help in planning my days in the parks. Plus I like all the pockets where I write and keep up with all my information.

I love TGM, Passporter and the Unofficial Guide. I think that they all have great info!!!

I have all three, too. Love them all. I'm a book junkie :thumbsup2

I personally found Birnbaums (sp?) Unofficial Guide to Disney World the best all around. We also went on a Disney Cruise and purchased their Unofficial Guide to Disney Cruise Lines or somehthing to that effect. I think it has a lot of useful, easy to read info and advice. I believe they also have a Kids Unofficial Guide to WDW.... Its Kid friendly, easy to read with lots of check lists, surveys and such to invlove the kids in the travel planning process. My family has traveled extensivley and My mom always bought Birnbaums Unofficial Guides to ... wherever we were going. And we always had a great time and a well planned trip! :coffee:

Thats my Vote! And the DISBoards of course!! :thumbsup2

I purchased the UG for our first visit to Disney last Feb and it was helpful to no end. I just signed up with TGM for this years trip and picked up the 2006 UG because we will be going in May this time and I'm not sure what to expect for May....Have fun on your trip!!!

We've always used Birnbaums every trip we've taken. We bought it this time too, but we just bought the Passporter 2 weeks ago and I've started reading it. I really like this one too. :teeth: Of course, when I'm planning a trip, I like to read everything I can get my hands on. Just can't get enough Disney :rotfl2:

Birnbaum's Guides are the absolute best! We refuse to use *ANYTHING* else! :)

can anyone tell me about the "official" guide? or is the unofficial guide the way to go?

thanks!

Thanks much to all of you who have responded! I appreciate the insight. Frankly, I am a bit overwhelmed with this trip. We were hoping to go the first week in June, but the airfare seems to keep going UP! So not only am I waiting for a Disney code to decide if I should get AP, or use my AAA discount, or see if there is a public code, now I have to watch the airfares everyday! :coffee:
I am leaning towards telling the family they can go to the waterpark next town up, and I am going to Vegas! :rotfl2:
Thanks again for the help!

Add my vote for the Unofficial Guide. Got it a few weeks ago, and even though we've been to WDW a number of times found the information in this guide is very helpful. Bought the Birnbaum's guide back in '01 and IMO the Unofficial Guide blows it away.
