Which Garmin to buy?

I'd agree with John. It's pretty good under tree cover.

Here is a run/walk from last summer on a fairly tree lined area. The path is marked every 1/2 mile I started at the Mile 0 and turned around at mile 1.5. The Garmin says 2.98mi. It's never going to be perfect. But it works well.

This has been a helpful thread! Would like to get people's thoughts - I know someone who is looking to sell their 405 (with HRM) for $175. I might be able to talk him down in price from there. I would really LOVE to get a 410, but it's just not in the funds right now. The 405 runs around $200 new on Amazon, there's even a few refurbished for $180, which is why I am going to talk down the price.

Does $175 seem like a good deal for a 405?

Does the refurbished include the HM strap? If so I would try to talk him down to $150 - with the justification that the refurbished ones are for $180 and they have gone through factory-cleaning and such

But I would honestly try and hold out for the 410 - with the 610 the price will continue to fall. I have the 405 now, and the bezel has been steadily driving me more and more nuts. (I've had mine for almost 3 years now) $150 is still alot of money, and you want to be 100 percent happy with the product.

Thanks fashionista - I always appreciate your feedback! Yes, the refurbished at $176 includes HM strap. Decisions, decisions.....I guess it's no harm in trying to negotiate down the price, but I don't think at this point I'll buy it outright for $175 used - like you said the 410 prices may go down, I just have to juggle wanting something now, or being patient for what I really want (which is always a tough thing for me! :lmao:).

For the two people who just bought the Garmin 305 watch. Is it possible you could provide me with the SKU number of it. Not all Best Buys carry the watches so it would be easier if I just called one store and gave them the sku to look up in their system to see if anyone in my area carries it. Haven't had any luck so far.

Is what is on my receipt. I'm not sure calling will help too much as at my Best Buy they were not even in the inventory system anymore. Guy remembered seeing one and found it for me. At my Best Buy they were with the car gps units not in the exercise section. Good luck.

The guy at my store said it varies by region and what's selling. They're priced at $95 here in Raleigh, and some stores have them but others don't. It didn't come up in the computer initially, but when he put the SKU number in, he found it that way. (He actually went out to the internet and found the SKU number himself - very helpful salesman!)

Not quite as good a deal as some of you have found, but I went ahead and bought one. DH has a 305 that's been acting flaky, and I have a 205, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and upgrade mine so we'd have a backup unit!
