DD's have been asking me for a playstation- xbox or game cube for about 6 months. We finally discussed and decided upon behaviors that will earn a game system for them.

Now I need to know which system to get. At their fathers they have a ps2, (its technically his) and a game cube, dd8 got for christmas. They seem to play each one the same amount, so I cant go by use to pick the new one for here. They are 8 and 9, and I generally dont 'game' though I will race them, or play crash bash against them etc.

I would like opinions on systems and game choices for the different options. They play crash bash, and racing games a lot. 4-wheeler, snowmobile racing, as well as car racing. I would like to get them DDR for whatever console we end up with. do they all have this?

Thanks for your help!

Brandy

DH likes the XBox the best. Plus, it doesn't seem like they are putting out very many new games for game cube

I would get them a PS2. We have all 3 (well 4 if you count the 360) and in general the PS2 seems to be the most popular.

I'm partial to the Gamecube. I love Mario and it has a ton of Mario games, so I'm happy with it haha.

Honestly it is like apples, oranges & kiwi. We have all systems...

I will go with Gamecube.

Now the xbox is a better system, better graphics, etc...it is true. Honestly I would get a PS2 before I got a XBOX. The reason is that they do not have alot of the popular RPG's on the XBOX. However all the "racing games" are on BOTH PS2 & XBOX.

My 8yodd and I are constantly playing "Animal Crossing" on Gamecube. :rotfl: It is the system that is used the most here.
As far as racing games for Gamecube you have all the Mario stuff, MonkeyBall, Crash Bandicoot, and others.
I am sure they will find other games appealling on Gamecube rather than racing games as well. Lots of fun games for young kids.

Then when they are older they can get the XBOX360 or the PS3.:thumbsup2 After they come down in price and the bugs are worked out.

I have two girls (12 and 15) and they like the PS2. The games are more to their liking, I think.

I prefer the Nintendo games for younger kids.

My dd is 6 and she likes the xbox. She enjoys the Shrek games. :thumbsup2

I think xbox is for sports junkies mostly (football etc) best games are those.
Gamecube is for younger kids. I think they out grow it by 8-10 range.
PS2 is more usable for all ages. Lots of girl games too. My DH loves the PS2 and so does my almost 11 yr old.

I would recommend PS2. From what I hear once the PS3 comes out and you decide to get it, it will be backwards compatible. Another words you can play all the PS2 games on the PS3. This is not the case with Xbox and Xbox360. From what I have been told regular Xbox games will not play on the 360. You would need to buy all brand new games.

I love playing PS2's Grand Trourismo driving game. Racing around the Grand Canyon..it really looks like the Grand Canyon.

Some Xbox games play in the 360 but you have to buy the $100 harddrive to do so.

Gamecube is more kid friendly but I would go with the PS2, especially if you are wanting to get Dance Dance Revolution games.

If you are personally into the older Mario games, you know the original Mario Brothers from the old Nintendo where you had to blow to make the games work, the new Nintendo will play those. The Revolution, is supposed to come out towards the end of the year and will play the current Gamecube games and you'll be able to download all the old games for a very small cost.

DH just got the 360 and all I can say is WASTE of money. There are hardly ANY games out for it. It's backwords capability stinks since only a fraction of the old games work and even then you have to download patches for it to work. Even the games cost more than the other games as well. AND, you can't even play DDR on it right now. The old pads don't plug in nor is the game backwords compatible, and I haven't even seen a date released for a new DDR for that system. That's the only reason I ever played the XBOX.

I have a Gamecube and really like it. But then again I'm in love with Mario games so to me that's the only system to play since Mario is only on Nintendo. Nintendo does have some DDR games, though not the originals by Konami.

I have both the ps2 and the gamecube. I would ask your girls they play both so they can tell you which one they would enjoy better. Then you don't have to worry about it and stress over what gaming system to get them. Maybe go to the store and see what games they are selling with each and then you could decide what games they will play and which system has them.

I'd wait for the new playstation to come out!!

We have all three systems.

Gamecube gets played most by my 7year old daughter and for
family games like mario party.

XBox is played more by DH and I

PS3 Is played most by grandpa and DS 8.

We have all of them. The gamecube NEVER gets played. I may as well throw it away no one would notice.
The PS2 is my daughters and she plays it a little.
The XBOX now never gets played and it was supposed to go to my younger daughter, I ma just too lazy to hook it up in her room. I need to have my son do this.
The XBOX 360 is the one that is getting played A LOT here now. This is my sons and he is a true gamer. He loves the 360.
That being said probably the PS2 has the most games for girls? Xbox 360 seems more for boys to me but I could be wrong.

You do need the hard drive to play the regular Xbox games (and actually quite a few of the original Xbox games are backwards compatible), but if you buy the premium version of the Xbox 360 then it is included along with a wireless controller, head set, ethernet cable, and HD cable that doesn't come with the core system. So, it's actually a better deal to buy the premium system if you are intending on purchasing the hard drive anyway for backwards compatability or just to save games and other info. Without the hard drive you will have to purchase a memory card anyway that runs around $40 and you won't have the wireless controller, head set, or component HD AV cable (if you are hooking the 360 up to an HD or HD-Ready TV (like mine) then I would be sure to use an appropriate cable). Anyway, regarding the OP's question - I have a Gamecube and Xbox 360, and not surprisingly, I enjoy the 360 much more. Of course, it's newer technology and a somewhat different selection of games than the Gamecube so that's probably why. I have also had a PS2 (just sold it recently) and it has been the most "popular" gaming system for awhile. I work part-time at Best Buy and we sell more PS2 systems and PS2 games then anything. If budget is a concern then I would go with the PS2 or maybe the Gamecube (the Mario games are awesome!) but like a previous poster said - there's not that much selection when it comes to Gamecube. Other wise I would say Xbox 360 all the way! You did say they like racing games a lot - well DH and I are hooked on PGR3 (Project Gotham Racing 3) right now - it's the best racing game I've ever seen graphics wise. Another racing game just came out for the 360 last week - Full Auto - I checked it's rating - it's rated teen so depending on what rating of games they are allowed to play that may be something they would enjoy playing. The coolest thing about the Xbox 360 is being able to play other people around the world - I'm a newbie to the whole Xbox - Internet thing, but so far I'm lovin' it. It's really cool to be able to play a friend or family member across town or across country for that matter. Well, I think I've started rambling so forgive me!

By the way (as I posted in another thread) if anyone has a 360 and wants to share gamertags for online play let me know! I would love to play with some fellow Dissers! :)

I honestly think there are good games for all three systems....It is not fair to blame a system if you don't own any of the "good" games for it.
