has the least unwanted junk mail?? you know like hotmail, yahoo, etc??

opinions please!!

thank you

I have have had two yahoo accounts. The first email address I gave out on a lot of different websites. The amount of junk mail I received was crazy. I have had my new account for two months. I have only given out my new email address on confidential sites and I have not received one piece of junk mail - other than a couple emails directly from yahoo. I have been surprised but pleased.

I have Hotmail & Yahoo addresses, but use my Mail.com address more because I get very little spam.

Yahoo has a filter, and I guess it filters out around 200 junk emails for me per day.

I use excite.com, and I maybe get one or two junk emails every couple of days! I recommend them!

It's not really the email service that determines how much just mail you get, it's how much you give out the address. Like another poster has said, if you just give it out to friends and family, you should get very very little spam if any.

All free email providers have some sort of spam filter if your address does get out, so it's really up to you to determine which other benefits you like from each - ie do they offer you a web site, how much storage space, etc...

good luck!

Hotmail's junk filter works great, but it doesn't block Hotmail's messages about buying the Hotmail pay service, nor MSN commercials. Funny how that works.

Use the bulk/junk mail filters.

I have a hotmail account set to Exclusive- I only will receive mail from those on my list of contacts. Occasionally I get email from hotmail staff or MSN.

I also have 2 yahoo accounts. The old one is getting less and less mail since I've unsubscribed to many things that I now get through my cable internet address. The new address I haven't given out so I've only received a handful of messages, all from yahoo.

DH gets a lot of spam. I think it's because of the games he plays with others online coupled with the fact that he's a male 25-35. I'll bet his yahoo account is over the limit and that he's neglected to clean it out in a month.

so much for all those opinions! I'm setting up an account for a non-profit pantry that I'm involved with and no one one the task force wants to use their personal email. This is great! thank you thank you :)

... that it is true that it depends how much you give out your address. Also, if you have your own website and add your address on there so that ppl can contact you then 'spiders' will find it on their daily searches through the web and start sending you spam... there are ways and means around this apparently, I can help you out on this if you have a web site, just PM me... I've never done it myself on my sites tho! (But I know what you *need* to do!)

Just another tip, should you get spam mail, your best option is to 'block' that address, or if possible, domain. Yahoo and Hotmail do have these options so if you use them, look out for them. Never, and I mean *never* use a link in a spam mail claiming to be an 'unsubscribe' option unless you are sure you asked for the email in the first place (i.e. if you ask a certain company to send you update emails and they do and then you decide you don't want them any more, you can probably quite safely use their unsubscribe option...) but if the original email is unsolicited then clicking on an unsubscribe link at the bottom of it, or emailing a supposed unsubscribe address will only *add* to your problems. Once a spam mailer gets a response that you want to unsubscribe, they then know your email account is active and proceed to send you more emails and sell your address on!!

Hope this helps, PM me with any questions!

Hiya,
Just another note on seeing your above post... does the pantry have an internet connection through an ISP who supplies a free email address? This could be a good way of getting one... just a thought!
