Is the location of where the Star Wars fireworks are shot from changing with the new show? It's my understanding that they were building (well, I guess prepping and leveling might be a better description) a new launch space for the new fireworks at Hollywood Studios in anticipation of having a more permanent fireworks show. So, I'm wondering a couple of things: 1). Will the viewing areas change a bit, and 2). Will they no longer have to close Pixar Place for fireworks at HD? Does anyone know any of this?
The new SW fireworks show will have projections on the Chinese Theater, laser lights, and less fireworks.

Because of the change in the fireworks bunker location, the main viewing area will be Center Stage and Hollywood Blvd. Echo Lake will no longer be a good location because you won't have a view of the graphics being projected on the theater.

The current SW fireworks are not held on Thursdays and Saturdays. The new fireworks are expected to begin on June 5th.

I hadn't thought of that...I'll check them out.

Or don't so as not to spoil the gravitas of the show. I've purposely avoided videos of the SW fireworks because I want to experience the full effect for the first time.

A few questions that may help you narrow down your answer:

A) Have you seen Illuminations before?
B) Will you be back to the parks sometime in the next two years?
C) Will you have already spent a day in EPCOT and seen Illuminations on this trip?
D) Will you already have spent a day in HS and seen the Star Wars fireworks on this trip?
E) Will the SW fireworks actually be playing on that date? They aren't every day.

Star Wars fireworks hands down. Best on property.

And make sure you watch from inside the park. The music it's synced too is a must for the experience

The OP will be there for the new SW fireworks. Much less pyro is the prediction because of the AK hours and the animals still being out. That's the reasoning that is being given.

Please forgive my ignorance, but is this new Star Wars show an indefinite thing? It will be there in August 2016?

Thanks,
Dan

On our most recent trip we saw FW at all 3 parks and Star Wars was hands down the best. Also, there was no problem getting a great view - since there's not that many rides anyway, we stopped about halfway down main street (or the HS equivalent, lol) and had lots of room. I stood next to a photopass photographer. Our daughter was able to sit in her stroller and still see everything - for Wishes that's only possible with a FP. you should definitely go.

If you've never seen either I say go for Illuminations as its a classic.
I can't "disagree" with this, since it is an opinion, but I will try to add some perspective. "Illuminations" is not a static, "been-there-forever" show. It changes over time. While there have been prior iterations that I would have ranked above the SW Fireworks, I find the current iteration of Illuminations to be horrible. Worst. Version. Ever. Total misuse (or lack of use) of the globe in the water. Prior versions had much better visuals. So for now, at least, I would have to vote for the SW fireworks.

I am a big Star Wars fan but the fireworks just didn't "wow" me like the Frozen Summer ones did last year. If you are HUGE Star Wars fan then maybe go see those, but I personally think at the moment Illuminations is a better overall show. Now after that add the projections and other effects I'm hoping the Star Wars fireworks will be more impressive. :)

I don't really buy that. It's not like the animals are brought in to sound proof rooms at night. They hear the fireworks regardless.

At least they're in their comfort zones ~ Disney's giving that as a reason for less pyro. Most people feel it's due to the cost of the pyro coupled with the added costs of the projection system and screens.

What years were the better versions? I'm curious if there are any videos of them on youtube.

I'm not even a star wars fan but the show I saw in April was AWESOME!! They need to redo illuminations. It has lasted past its time.

I think they changed out the lasers in 2013. And there have been changes to the lights on the country pavilions (which used to be much more integrated into the show). Maybe it is just a case of "over-familiarity" as opposed to the SW Fireworks being new, but I preferred the Illuminations shows that I saw in 2009-2013 more than the one I saw two weeks ago.

I've never been a big fan of illuminations. Christmas illuminations on the other hand is great.

You are comparing apples and oranges though. Illuminations isn't really a "fireworks" show. Sure they have fireworks but it's more about the story and the globe ect. ect. Fireworks are secondary.

Star Wars at DHS is all about Fireworks. It's fantastic.

That said, I was down on business last month and had my choice of where to be for shows and I picked MK. Looking back, maybe I should have done DHS since I've only seen that show twice and then went over to MK afterwards. I like being in MK after dark though so that's what pushed me over.

Anyway, for your question, Star Wars. No question about it.

Sounds great…and glad to hear that you had a good view!

When I say I've seen the current Illuminations a lot I'm not joking,at least between 150-200 times and I dont get tired of it.I will say I wont get upset when a new version comes as I've seen it enough but thats why different people like different things. But the Står Wars fireworks are amazing with the classic music and incredible ending.

Thank you everyone for your advice! Looks like the Star Wars fireworks is the one to see, but we will have to wait and see what changes are made in June.

We saw the Star Wars fireworks in April. I can't say how the new show will be but they were awesome. It's hard to get my son to watch fireworks, but he wanted to go back to see them again. We had 15 minutes between the end of Fantastic! and the fireworks. We left when the fireworks started going off at the end of F! and took the path on the far left that leads to the front of the park. I don't walk fast and we snagged a spot right next to the rope for the dessert party. It was an EMH night and TP reported the park as a 10 and F! was standing room only.

It's a plus for Star wars fireworks that we could watch F! beforehand!

Thanks for the link...good info there!
