Which DVC Resorts Have Dedicated 2BR Villas ???

We just got back from WDW last week and we did stay at SSR (we are not DVC memebers yet). While we stayed in a 1BR villa, we did walk over the the SSR preview rooms and saw a 2BR villa. I was told that most 2BR villas at SSR are 1BR villas along side a studio.

We stopped at OKW to try and see those rooms but no 2BR villa was available to see. We were given a room layout chart which showed that at OKW, it looks like the 2BR villa is a dedicated unit.

My question is this - which of the DVC resorts have dedicated 2BR villas?

We are a family of 4 and are looking to become DVC members/owners. One thing I'd like to have is 2 beds in the 2nd bedroom of a 2BR villa.

Which DVC resorts have 2 beds in the 2nd bedroom of a 2BR villa as opposed to the DVC resorts that have 1 bed and 1 pullout sofa in the 2nd bedroom?

I looks like OKW have two beds in the 2nd bedroom but I am not sure about the others.

We just got back from WDW last week and we did stop by the BWV rooms and it looked like that villa had a pullout sofabed.

Thanks.

VWL have 2 beds in the second bedroom of the dedicated two bedroom villas.
Not sure if other DVC resorts have dedicated two bedroom villas.

Some of the 2 bedrooms at OKW, SSR, VWL and BCV are dedicated 2 bedrooms. At AKV, in the new building there will be some dedicated 2 bedrooms, in Jambo, all of the 2 bedrooms are lockoffs.

BWV has no dedicated 2 bedrooms.

Only BCV has some dedicated 2 bedrooms that have 1Q and a pull out sofa in the second bedroom. The other dedicated 2 bedrooms all have 2Q's in the second bedroom. So, if you are booking a dedicated 2 bedroom at BCV, you have to specify which you want. It is a room reservation, not just a request.

SSR has 2 beds in the 2nd bedroom of the dedicated 2-br units. So does OKW. (I believe OKW has 2 queen beds in all the studios, but am not completely certain.) BCV has a very few 2-bedrooms with 2 queens in the second bedroom, but mostly 1 queen plus a sofa bed.

OKW is the only one that has two beds in ALL the second bedroom units. VWL, AKV, & SSR have them in the dedicated 2 bedrooms, and SOME of BCV dedicated 2 bedrooms have them, but most do not. None of the BWV has two beds and the lock off units in all but OKW have 1 bed and 1 sleep sofa. OKW is the only one to have 2 beds in them all.

I thought BCV did not have dedicated 2 bedroom units.Thet don't show them on the DVC website.

Also, at SSR there is approxiamately 20 dedicated and 24 lock-off 2 bedroom units per building.

When you call MS, be sure and tell them you want a dedicated 2-BR. We called and reserved a 2-BR at SSR for this coming March. At the 5 month window, all they had was a 2-BR lockoff (which is the bed/pull-out combo). I wait-listed a dedicated 2-BR and my request came through a couple of weeks later. At least at SSR, the points are the same whether it's a dedicated 2-BR or lockoff.

From the DVC web site...they don't SAY dedicated, but note in the description that SOME 2 bedrooms do have 2 Q's. Those aren't the ONLY dedicated 2 bedrooms, there are some that have 1Q and a sofa bed. The rooms were too small to accomodate the 2 Q's.

Doc:

First of all, thank you for being such a great and informative resource on the board.

Second of all - let me see if I am reading correctly. There are no dedicated 1 BR villas currently (i.e. at Jambo House) at AKV. Does this mean that there are no 1BR villas at all? Or there are 1BR villas - but only as part of a "lockoff" combining a 1BR and a studio?

Thanks!

Adam

All of the lock-off villas at AKV (and at all other DVC resorts) may be broken down into 1BR villas and Studios.

While the lock-off 2BRs are sometimes used as a 2BR, they are usually reserved as 1BR and Studio accommodations.

Enjoy! :)

Looking at the math the 1BRs are part of the lockoffs. I also noticed that the AKV numbers are for Jambo and Kindani combined.

So does this mean that a member could request a lockoff if say the 2BR are booked? Or is the decision as to whether or not the lockoff is booked separately or as a 2BR up to the CM you work with?

Thanks!

Yes, if you really want a lock-off (some members prefer lock-off 2BRs) you may request that. Usually, MS will reserve the dedicated 2BRs first and then reserve lock-offs when the dedicated villas are all reserved. They do hold a certain % back to be used as 1BRs and Studios as a usual policy so some 1BRs and Studios will be available at 11 months.

At HH, unless a HCA 2BR is needed, they will usually not allow members to reserve a lock-off 2BR as there are only 21 lock-offs at the resort and no dedicated 1BRs or Studios.

However, don't reserve a lock-off expecting that you could later just cancel the studio and keep the 1BR. Unless there is availability in a 1BR, MS would cancel your 2BR reservation and the 1BR might go to someone on the waitlist. In that situation, you have reserved a 2BR villa - not a 1BR and a Studio and that's how the system will treat that reservation.

Doc - that was great info. I've been trying to get a sense of which resorts are large, small or in between. It seems to me that the rank order of size (for the WDW resorts only) is:

SSR > AKV > OKW > BWV > BCV > VWL

So my home resort is AKV, I envision that my family will also want to stay at BWV / BCV / VWL. So based on the numbers you posted, I could make the following rough conclusions:

1. Booking a 1BR 11 mo out at AKV is probably not a problem assuming I'm not trying to get New Year's Eve or something crazy.

2. Booking a 1BR at BWV / BCV / VWL is feasible at 7 months - all depending on the time of year I want to go - slowest times probably not an issue, moderate times getting iffy to not going to happen - busy times, probably not going to happen.

I know this is abstract and everything depends on time of year, room type, etc. etc. just trying to get a feel for things.

Thank you so much!

You've got a good understanding of the basics! :) Many have had great success reserving non-home resorts within 7 months - for all times of the year - so nothing is impossible. However, availability for some dates are definitely more difficult than others.

As far as resort size though, OKW will actually be little larger than AKV - so switch those in your ranking.

In July 2006 we had an issue with our reservation for a dedicated 2bedroom at BCV (2nd bedroom was to have 2 beds) and it was clearly a training issue for the staff as I spent quite a long time on the phone getting someone to acknowledge it was not a request. Eventually DVC management called to discuss it with us - I posted here after the trip (here's the thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1055640 ). Our issue most likely was that we checked in late and the staff did not understand the room reservations.

Your post reallybothers me, because they SHOULD understand the product!
