Calling on you experts - I know that SSR has not opened yet but we are renting points from a dear friend of ours. For our dates SSR and OKW were available. Which should we choose and why? Her home resort is OKW and she loves it but we would like more opinions.
We will have three adults (me, DH and my sister) and three kids, girls ages 5,8,9. We are renting a 2BR. Thanks so much in advance for your input.

The question is: what are your dates? In the fall, OKW is shutting down the main pool to allow contruction of a cool new pool slide (sand castle themed). I would expect that you would want to spend at least part of your visit at the pool. Given your kids' ages, I'd say, go with the resort that already has a pool slide: SSR.

Both are fine choices tho. The rooms at OKW are a bit bigger than the other DVC resorts, so if the kids are on the rambunctious side, maybe you'd want the bigger unit.

Have a great time!

I agree!

If you're going anytime between Sept.04' and Jan.05' - I'd go for SSR since the main pool at OKW will be being rehabed. Kids that age would enjoy the slide at the Main pool. Plus SSR will be all brandy new;)

Our dates in August - before the pool is closed I believe. I really appreciate your input!

Take a look at pix of the two resorts on line at dvconline.com ::yes:: . To get to OKW, you will click on Our Resorts, but for SSR, click on the SSR link on the initial sales page.

I would personally lean toward SSR.

They really are very similar resorts in terms of the location, resort setup (parking near buildings, some distance from resort buildings to main pool) and amenities. But with the newness of SSR and that slide at the main pool, that would probably tip the scales toward SSR.

If you do book SSR, I would suggest requesting a dedicated 2B unit. Honestly I'm not certain if they guarantee the "dedicated" 2B or not. But the dedicated rooms will have two queen beds in the second bedroom, which it sounds like you will need. The "lockout" 2Bs have one queen bed and a pull-out sofa in the second bedroom.

If you go with OKW, all of the 2Bs have the two queen bed setup.

If you go to OKW and get a two bedroom you will get two queen size beds in the second room with no lock off. You have to ask for a lock off which with kids I would not go for anyway. You are a major candidate for OKW. We have not had a chance for people to stay at SSR yet, so I would wait for responses, they may have trouble with noise at SSR. Just do not know yet..
