Which DVC resort has the best 1-bedroom vacation home???

1-bedroom sq ft

OKW 942
Bwv 814
bcv 726
vwl 727
SSr 714

but there are other considerations - both BCV and SSR have a desk in the bedroom - I like that - the other DVC resorts at present time do not.

but I also love OKW - it is just so roomy - the bedroom is about the same size - but the livingroom and bathroom are much bigger.

I kept hopping that DVC will put a desk in a 1-bedroom at oKW....

BWV also has the dining table rather than the built in - we've always stayed at BWV, but I've always at least imagined I perfer the built in (in practice, who knows - but it sure looks superior). And that huge closet in the Master (wonder how much square footage that thing takes up - my first dorm room was only a bit larger!). Just from curiousity, where did your numbers come from (because they do change depending on source and which room you measure!).

I just found the book they gave me when we took the SSR tour. It says that the studio is 395 square feet, 1bdr is 754 sf. Now we have to figure out which one is right. I do remember my guide telling me that they made the rooms bigger than the villas' because members answered questionaires stating that was the best thing about OKW. But then again we're all finding out there is never one answer. Ask 5 different CM's and you get 5 different answers.
The Disney site (the one where they try to get you to look at DVC, not the DVC member site), lists the SSR studio as 355 square feet, 1 bedroom as 714 sq feet and the 2 bedroom as 1,075 sq feet.
They list VWL as 356 sq ft for the studio, 727 sq feet for the 1 bedroom and 1,080 sq feet for the 2 bedroom.
BCV is listed as 365 sq feet for the studio, 726 for the one bedroom and 1,083 sq ft for the 2 bedroom.
BWV are 412 sq ft for the studio, 814 for the 1 bedroom and 1,226 for the 2 bedroom.
They list OKW as 390 sq ft for the studio, 942 for the 1 bedroom and 1,395 for the 2 bedroom.

I'm very dissappointed at DVC right now. I remember my guide telling us that SSR would have bigger rooms than all the other except OKW. I'm pissed now. He's getting a phone call.

I was just wondering which DVC resort has the best 1-bedroom vacation home. We will be staying in a studio @ SSR and then moving into a 1-bedroom at either SSR, BWV, or OKW. Thanks for any info.
If you are staying in a studio at SSR before moving to a 1br, I would suggest staying at SSR. The studio will probably be connected to a 1br (2br lock off). With any luck, they will move you from the studio to the 1br. That would make it possible to walk your luggage 50 feet and be done.
Staying at the same resort for your entire stay would probably give you more park time and less check-out/check-in time.
Don't worry about the size issue. SSR has the nicest and largest furnishings of all the DVCs. This makes the rooms look smaller. It is just an optical illusion. My wife, daughter and I had a great time in a 1br at SSR in May.

Every time I read about the "large porches" at OKW, I think of Hee-Haw. Remember those guys lying on the porch telling corny jokes? The hillbilly in me is longing to stay at OKW. If you see the Clampett-mobile parked outside one of the OKW villas, come on in for a snort of corn liquor.

Yaaahhh.....right.........

OKW does indeed have counter service. I believe they're open from about 7 am to 10 pm. It's called Goods To Go. And OKW is a very nice, scenic boat ride away from DD.
Hope this helps !

Whoops, I stand corrected. Sorry for the erroneous post. I thought I had read a thread somewhere that at Goods to Go they stopped selling sandwiches and stuff, and people were upset about it. I must've gotten my threads confused :p

At one point, they sold some items off the Olivia's menu. That was what they stopped selling. We got other things from Goods to Go during our visit in March.

I'd like mine shaken with a misting of Cinzano Extra Dry and two olives, please.

I believe it's the Turtle Shack snack stand near the Turtle Pond pool that has closed . Though I've read reports some have witnessed it open ? I guess I'll find out when I get there next month. So I think that's what you were thinking of when you heard the "counter service" was discontinued. But Goods To Go is alive and well...you can get breakfast items there in the morning...I'm not sure if they sell the corn liquor there though... :rolleyes1

Other than OKW, all the rest at WDW are essentially the same size and general design. There are minor variations here and there that affected people's perception and usability. DVC generally does not publish the numbers any more partly for this reason. For any complaint to measure up formally, you'll have to have something in writing. For you to have any legal recourse, it'd need to be on the contract or in the POS. My guess he was speaking about OKW and you and he/she were just not on the same page.

He had told us about OKW having the biggest rooms and how the other 3 had smaller rooms. He specifically said that SSR would have bigger rooms for all except OKW.

Guides, while I'm sure are nice people, are salespersons. They have been known to tell folks the occupancy limits are never enforced among other things. If you don't see it in writing it isn't necessarily so.

More likely he was mistaken rather than truly lying but you never know. Complain so they can let him know his mistake, but that's as far as it'll go unless you have written documentation.

I don't expect anything to be done. I just called to give an earful. I'll wait to see if he calls back. He's usually good about that.

My wife, DD 6, DD1 and me are planning out first DVC trip in 11/06. We have a res for a 1BR at the VWL.
While making the res I was torn between the VWL and the Beach Club, but choose the VWL because of the proximity to the MK. Good choice?? Should I change?

Thank you

Yaksack, Considering your children's ages, I would think the MK would be the biggest destination draw, so I think you made the right choice. It's a nice boat ride over to the MK from the WL dock. Your 6 yo will love the slide at the main WL pool. Have a great 1st trip HOME ! :cool1:

Why change? VWL is a great resort. 5 minute boat ride to MK. No matter which DVC resort you pick, you can't go wrong. Each one has it pro's & con's.

Six is prime "SAB scares the *#$& out of me" age. It is a really really cool pool, but it is nearly impossible to keep an eye on your kids there. It can be really deep (the lazy river in particular). The slide is huge and pretty scary (they do have kiddie slides, but they are probably a little too tame for the average six year old), and it twists and turns so you can't see from one end to the other. My own kids will not be staying at the Y&BC (they are currently six and seven) for several more years and a couple more sessions of swim lessons.
