We have been to WDW many times before, but we've always done summer trips. Our last trip was in July and was amazing. We are going back at the beginning of August and can't wait to "go home!"

Now we've also decided to go for Christmas 2014. The plan is to surprise the kids on Christmas and leave that afternoon. Come home sometimes after New Years.

So my question is, are trips in the winter months as fun as those in the summer? I know it's FL so it's not exactly cold like up north. Also does Disney do anything special for New Years?

We always do winter trips now. We have been doing January or February the past few years and are doing Christmas 2014. I really can't handle the heat at all so winter is better for us. The weather is a bit hit or miss - we have seen days that topped out at in the 40's but have been pretty lucky. The average high is in the 70's. Last year we hit a record high in February at 89 degrees. If swimming is very important to your crowd, you may not enjoy it as much depending on the weather but we prefer winter trips over summer ones.
I haven't done a summer trip since 1998 and can't even imagine doing that again.

Christmas might be fun one time for the lights and lower temps.

OTOH, we'd rather have lower crowds and water park days "generally speaking".

We LOVE our Winter trips but we avoid that Christmas week with a passion. We did New Years week last year and it was much less enjoyable that early December or later January because of the crowds. Christmas Week is stage 4 closing crowded so be prepared. Now, the decorations and music and all the special activities are wonderful and if you go often enough that the rides and normal things are not too important, you can make it work.

It can be COLD in December so don't come unprepared. We have headed out to the parks in 20 degree weather before. It could be shorts weather or wear every thing you have to keep warm weather!!! Swimming is a toss up but don't count on it.

We choose cold over Summer hot and mostly do Mid January to avoid crowds.
