Which DL Hotel?

My biggest dilemma. Do I stay at a DL hotel? At WDW, I love to stay in WDW resorts, because it sort of completes the experience.

Is it the same at DL? Or is it just as good to stay at a nearby hotel?

My family has stayed on and off property ... and I will always favor staying on property ... however, many of the places off property are a stones throw a way from the resort.

If you only get to DL once in a blue moon then I say stay on property.

I think staying on site definitely completes the experience. Of course DL doesn't have nearly as many on-site hotels as WDW, but staying at them makes all the difference to us.

For us it's all about the type of trip, some years if we get annual passes, we may make multiple trips and stay on Harbor in the motels. If this is the "only" Disney trip for the year, we will stay on property. If we want to do both WDW and DL, we will stay off property at DL and save the $ for on property at WDW.

The way I figure it, this may be the ONLY time I ever get to California, so I think staying on-property might be the best thing. Now, which hotel on property? And where can I find some good discounts?

To get the best values - go off season and/or have someone in your group purchase an annual pass. The often times have annual pass discounts that make spending the money on the annual pass worth it even if you won't go back. (depending on how many days you are staying)

I absolutely love Grand Californian. You are right in the middle of everything. They have a great "snack" shop - Whitewater that we ate at regularly. This is the most expensive of the three, but when we stayed there, we were able to get a room for $159/night in June (typically we'd been quoted close to $300/night until we hit this jackpot)

I haven't stayed at DLH so I can't give much advice except that everyone raves about the Sierra Tower.

I've stayed at PP (since the renovations) and after staying at GC, it really was a huge disappointment.

The hotels across the street on Harbor are just as close at the Disneyland hotel. We rarely stay on site. Don't forget that you can eat at whitewater and still see the vintage fantasy water show even if you are sleeping off site.

I say only stay on site if you are getting a really good deal.

We live very close by..I sometimes go to DL for an "extended" lunch break...

But even living so close, we take annual trips there and stay at the Disneyland Hotel. The GC is nice and big and new....but something about Tinkerbell's pixie dust around the ceiling...

Well worth it.

Request the Marina Tower, tough...it's definitely the best... closest to the pool, which is really quite fun. The slide is great too... :)

A stay at GC definitely brings the same feel of "magic" you get from staying on site at WDW. It's right up there with WL and AKL (probably because they were designed by the same person). It's wonderful and sooo convenient. If you can afford the extra cost, don't give it a second thought. You'll love it!
