We have booked 9 nights at SSR but are now thinking of splitting the stay & booking another on site hotel. I've looked at the Grand Floridian , Bay lake tower & boardwalk but can't decide . Where would you recommend any of these or somewhere else??

oooh that's a tough question with so many possible answers.
It really depends on the family and what you enjoy doing.

For us its the Contemporary resort, our son is in a wheelchair- so its more a location choice for us. The monorail is fab to visit the other hotels on the loop and to get to Epcot & MK. Also the walkway to MK is a bonus.
After staying there a few times, its our home and our favourite restaurants are within reach of the hotel. :)

Our favourite WDW resort is Wilderness Lodge. It is just so breathtaking and awe-inspiring. You can't help but be impressed by the large lobby. A lot of people complain that the rooms are dark (dark furniture and accessories) but we absolutely loved it. We loved being able to hear the music from the Electrical Water Pageant while sitting on our balcony in the evening, being able to watch it from the beach, the boat to MK, the opportunity to be flag family, the Hidden Mickey hunt - just everything!

A very close second is Boardwalk Villas (or Inn) - it's all about location, location, location! We love being able to walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. You can't beat the convenience of the International Gateway - after Illuminations have finished and all the crowds are slowly pushing their way to the front of the park and fighting for buses or monorails, you can take a slow stroll out of the IG exit and back to the hotel. The Belle Vue lounge is the most relaxing place to have a pre-dinner drink while sitting in the sunshine and watching the world go by and, for me, you can't beat the atmosphere of an evening spent on the Boardwalk, strolling around the lake and enjoying the entertainment.

Just one thing to note - have you booked with the free dining plan? If so, I'm not entirely sure you can do a split stay. If not, then go for it. We love split stays!

So many things to consider with hotels. I used to think staying at the Poly would be good but having spent a bit of time there for meals & DISmeets I have decided its great to visit but not somewhere I want to stay, far too busy with thru footfall. GF I like to look around but not somewhere I want to stay, totally dislike the Contemp but all 3 of these are popular because of the monorail.

We didn't like AS Movies, put us off staying in value ever again.

Loved AKL but would have to be a savannah view.

Our favourite OKW, I feel like I am on vacation there, totally relaxed resort.

As Joh says though, are you on free DDP?, can't split stay if you are.

Thanks for the replies. I have got DDP so will ring disney and check if I can do the split stay with this . Thanks:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

No you can't unfortunately, something that gets asked multiple times but no-one has managed yet.

Sorry that was not entirely true, you can split stay but you have to buy new tickets for each resort you check into.

which is the "best" depends on many things.

One of those is the category one's considering.

Here are my picks :

- Value : POP
- Moderate : POR
- Deluxe : Poly tied with AKL

I won't go over the reasons I chose these hotels, they're just "the best" of each category, as far as I'm concerned.
ymmv

We have stayed at animal kingdom lodge three times and I honesty can't recommend it highly enough. It os such a chilled and friendly hotel plus having animals just oit side your room is awesome

I would be staying in ther grand floridian if only I could afford it only ever done it once years ago!

i've stayed in almost every disney resort (the only ones i haven't stayed at are SSR and CSR)...

they're all nice in their own way, and i'd be happy staying at any of them...

that said, my favorites are GF and WL....

You are right , if we change our booking we lose the DDP . Was nice to hear everyone fav hotels though . Going to try & upgrade our universal hotel from Rph club levelto the hard rock kid suite club level...although cant seem to find a price on the website for this :confused3
Thanks again for all your help :thanks:::disrocks:

I think your question is so subjective that you'll probably get many different answers! Even within our family we have differing opinions.

I prefer the deluxe villa resorts, my favourite is SSR. DW is a fan of the Poly & Wilderness Lodge. Kids prefer AoA & POFQ because they like the pool!

In your situation, I would stick with SSR, but if you really want to split, then the best thing to do is go based on your own tastes and touring style. BLT is great if you like the ability to walk to the MK. Boardwalk is great because you can walk to 2 of the 4 parks and you have all of the nightlife on your doorstep. GF is for you if you love a pure luxury and sophisticated stay.

It's a tough call because there really isn't a "bad" choice.

I think all the resorts are great! I haven't stayed at them all but have visited them. Each has different qualities that will suit different families. I do like the Boardwalk very much but I also liked SSR and being able to walk over to DTD from the Congress Park area where we stayed, I also like Fort Wilderness and think Animal Kingdom lodge would be a fabulous place to stay..... sorry but your question is just too hard to answer!!! :rotfl:

Mine:
Favourite - Wilderness Lodge = wonderful and chilled!
Least - Grand Floridian = snooty and a bit pretentious

Our favourite is The Yacht & Beach Club-Stormalong Bay is the best Disney Resort pool, its 5 minutes walk to EPCOT and a 10 minute boat ride or 20 minute walk to Hollywood Studios & it has a very relaxed atmosphere. We also loved the theming of Pop Century,it was great for DD & DS when they were little, but we outgrew the room.
Least favourite would be the Allstar resorts, although budget like POP we just didn't feel as relaxed there or liked the themes as much.

I actually like facilities in a resort, therefore one is my favourite by far.
I think a hotel room, unless you're spending a lot of time there,is simply somewhere to sleep.
The resort and the room are separate entities to me,but certainly others have different opinions.
I really liked pop and all star movies,I think art of animation looks great fun.
Moderate wise,we liked por,but I think the rooms elsewhere in other mods look very similar- so no wrong choice there.
Deluxe wise,I like the look of the contemporary, but as I said,I like dvc facilities,-so I would opt for blt.
Otherwise a Savannah view at akl or wilderness lodge would be jolly,if they were affordable! :goodvibes

WL for me as well. Incredibly relaxed place and getting a boat to Magic Kingdom is a brilliant perk. Second best place would be Beach Club,

I've not stayed there yet but I like the look of the Boardwalk Inn and plan on doing a split stay there with WL in May if the prices are favourable.

Never really fancied Poly or Grand Floridian either. I agree that they are better just for a visit and a meal. Would love to stay a few nights in Contemporary but only in the tower. Unfortunately the prices always seem a bit OTT.

Its not a bad dilemma to have. :thumbsup2

Fave deluxe is Beach Club. Absolutely fabulous pool and outstanding location (Epcot is my favourite park).

Fave moderate is POR. The food court here is very good and we love the theming of Alligator Bayou. Pool and quiet pools are also good as is boat to DTD.

I wouldn't stay at any of the value resorts unless finances forced me to. I am a hotel snob I'm afraid.

Would not feel comfortable at GF and whilst the Poly looks nice it's just always so goddam busy there I'm not sure i could stay there for two full weeks. I'd like to stay at the Contemporary some time. That has nice rooms and the monorail inside the building is still very cool even now it's old!

There's definitely not one answer to this question as it's all down to personal taste!

For me, its the Wilderness Lodge hands down. I love the relaxed feel of the resort, the lobby is beautiful and the easy of catching a boat the Magic Kingdom!

I am also completely Christmas obsessed and I love WL decked for the festive season.
