My sons are 15, 12 and 11. We've never done a Disney dinner show with the kids . We'll be there in December and staying at the Poly.

Luau, Hoop Dee Doo or neither?

Thanks,

absolutely positively HOOP DEE DOO! your kids will love it! you will too! the show is really fun and a bit corny but very entertaining for all ages... the food was outstanding (best fried chicken i've ever had) and unlimited... the atmosphere is great... just an all around down home american as apple pie good time! (oh, and it's all you care to drink beer/wine/sangria too!)

we did the luau a few years ago and were very disappointed... have not done mickey's backyard bbq yet, mainly 'cause it's outdoors and not air-conditioned (we typically visit the world in aug/sept... need that a/c!)

enjoy!

I like both of them. We did the Luau twice, and have seen the old as well as the show and had fun at both. The luau show is more relaxing, IMO.

The HDDR is what I would call...more up beat. With more family participation with the members of the show. The food is very good at both HDDR and the Luau. But very different in what they serve.

I have a teenage daughter that had a great time at HDDR in 03.
We're going back to HDDR next year. Taking my niece with us. She has a great sense of humor, and is looking forward to the show after seeing our video.

You should have a fun time with whichever one you choose.

Ya Hoo, Hoop De Doo. My family and I have been to the HDD 6 times and every family trip we take the first thing out of our kids mouths is "are we going to the HDD"?

HDD #7 is scheduled for spring break 2005!

My boys are 16 + 12 and they absolutely love the show. It's one of the highlights of their trip.

Another vote for HDDR. We've done both, and we liked the luau, but I think your kids will like the HDDR more.

My vote would be for the HDDR. We've been twice and both times my kids, ages 4 & 11, have loved it. My parents even loved it! The food is very good too. I personally love the strawberry shortcake! It's worth going just for that alone!

We haven't tried the Luau yet. We're scheduled to go in December. I figure it's something different and we'll give it a try. Hopefully, it won't be too cold or rainy.:umbrella:

Count me in for Hoop Dee Doo. Been going every year (somtimes twice a year) since 1980. LOVE it... The Luau bores me and I don't mean that in a rude way, here is why, at HDD you are served your food WHILE they are doing the show. At the Luau you eat dinner and after they clear your plates away they begin the show... After I eat my dinner I am ready to leave... It's a "Dinner Show" right so I should be eating my dinner while there is a show going on...

Hoop Dee Doo 100% :)

took my 8 yo nephew and 10 yo niece a few years back and they laughed their heads off the whole show (well, we all did) at the end of the show my nephew turned to me and said - Auntie Kathy - you should take us here every day!

HOOP DEE DOO GETS MY VOTE!!!!!!

LUAU
we did the luau last august and it was nothing special......our waitress only came back to us 1 time for seconds, the food was ok but again nothing special , i found that the food served at o'hana and kona were much better then that of the luau. there are obstructions unless you are right on the floor ( and good luck getting one of those tables)

vs.

HOOP DEE DOO
I have done the HDDR over 18 times since 1981, and the show keeps improving . The food is great and it keeps coming !!! and FW has I think the best view of the water parade ( not as crowded as the other resorts)

Are some days less crowded than others at HDDR? I was going to do a PS for a Saturday, but now I'm wondering if a weekday might be better.

They have been full to capacity all the times we have done it, so I don't think day of the week makes a difference. Definitely do Hoop Dee Doo!!

I have to vote with the majority...HOOP DEE DOO...even my teen age DS and DH loved it! Our server even gave us two extra loafs of bread to take back to camp for breakfast, since we talked about how VERY good it was!!! One of the very best shows we saw at WDW!

Another vote for HDDR!! We've done both. Dd, 11, loves HDDR. The show is good and quite funny. The Luau show is okay but not one I would do more than once. The food at both is nothing to write home about tho. The food is more to my likeing at HDDR. My family doesn't do ribs, so that's a problem for us. But we loved the bread. Yum. Don't get me started on that strawberry shortcake. Dh and I each took one bite and said...'nope, not eating this!!' Bring me Jell-O if you have to but not that stuff. We plan on doing HDDR again.

could someone fill me in to what goes on at HDD, I know everyone loves it and suggests to go there, but what exactly is it !??! :confused3

Since you have 3 sons I would do the Hoop De Doo. We did it for the first time last December and just loved it.

Since you are staying at the Poly resort make sure you try O'Hanas for dinner. I would make a PS for it if you want to eat there.

Never did the Luau. Being that you're staying at the Poly, you'll get the tropical feeling anyway. I'd go with the HDDR. We went last year and my 2 DD's ages 10 & 13 want to go again next year. :D
