Hi
We are doing a big family trip this August. My parents, brother's family, sister's family and my family. There will be 6 kids (3 2YO's, 2 5 YO's and a 7 YO).
We are thinking about doing a dinner show, which none of us have ever done and was wondering what might be the best with the kids?
Thanks!!

ETA:also how does it work with seating levels and the dining plan??

We've done the Hoop Dee Do a bunch of times and love it...hoping to try the others one of these days.

I concur. Did Hoop Dee Doo in 2008, and can't wait to do it again in June! It's fantastic, food is great, and kids love it!

ETA:also how does it work with seating levels and the dining plan??

Dining plan users may book Category 1 seating only for the latest scheduled shows. At all other shows they are restricted to booking Category 2 or 3 seating. Upgrades on arrival might happen but no guarantees.

We are trying to decide if we want to do the Luau at the Poly or try another dinner show.

Any suggestioins and differences to both??

We liked the Poly, but wasn't super impressed. The kids didn't realky enjoy the food.

what type of food is better for kids at the dinner shows?

Definitely Hoop De Doo! Love that show. My husband got to be Davey Crocket's ghost/angel when we went in 2010. Laughed so hard I could hardly breathe. He looks so good in a tutu. We'll be seeing it for a 3rd time when we go this year. Good food too. Fried chicken, ribs, baked beans, strawberry shortcake. Oh and sangria. Yum!

We love the Hoop Dee Doo Review. It is great fun for all ages.
The food is "down home" cooking and very good. It certainly isn't gourmet, but it is not meant to be. It is all you care to eat, fried chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes, beans, salad, corn bread and strawberry shortcake for desert. It also includes unlimited beer, wine, sanagria and soft drinks.
We love the show as well.
I highly recommend it to your family.

Your kids are the perfect age for Hoop De Do Review! It's worth doing at least once, after 10 my son had no interst in doing it again!

I'm going to agree with everyone else...Hoop Dee Doo is alot of fun. All our kids really had a blast with it and cannot wait to go back again on our next family trip. Oh..and the adults had a great time too!:thumbsup2

I really enjoy both of those shows but with your kids age group I think the Hoop Dee Doo would be better. Have fun and bring a sweater! Both times I've seen it it's been freezing in the theater!

loved both shows - did HDDR in 2009 and 2010 and Spirit of Aloha in 2010.

Food and theming is better at HDDR in my opinion. DH enjoyed the dancers more than the dances at Spirit of Aloha and DS was bored stiff there until the fire dancer came out at the end. DD and I loved it.

At HDDR in 2009 we paid oop and had cat 1 while in 2010 we were on ddp and got cat 2. The seats were better in category 1 - directly in front of stage but one row back instead of two tables to the left for category 2 but both were excellent view and the performers do go round the room upstairs and down. Our server in cat 2 was far better than our server in cat 1.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend HDDR but can see that SOA isn't to everyone's taste and it is reliant on the weather too.

Another vote for Hoop de Doo. Just went last week and our 3YO and just-turned 6YO both loved it. We used dining plan for category 2 seating and could not have been more pleased with our table location. The food was good and it was a lot of fun.

Hoop de Doo is great! It's a must for us. My kids absolutely love it! I've heard SOA can be boring for kids, and like the OP stated, it's also dependent on the weather. Book it and don't look back! :yay:

Thanks!
I sent both for everyone to look at..although hop de doo either tells me there is nothing available on the day or to call because the party is too big. We'll see!
