My DH, DD5 and DD1 will be going to Disney next August with my sister and have booked the Grand Floridian. I have already stayed at the Poly, WL, and AKL in the past (Poly being my favorite!) My goal is to try each resort. However, I am concerned about spending more money than I can afford on a resort only to be disappointed. So my question is of all of the monorail resorts (I like the convenience, especially when travelling with a toddler and spending most time in MK) which would you recommend and why. I am a teacher so a Deluxe is a big expense for me!!! I want a good vacation- so just looking for some input.

Of the monorail resorts, I like Poly best, both for theming and for transportation convenience. Transportation-wise, it's the best on property, hands down, with it being next door to the TTC. No offense, but I find the atmosphere of the GF a bit stuffy for my tastes. CR just doesn't appeal to me.

If you're not so insistent on the monorail, I think WL is awesome, too. Keep in mind it does have the boat to MK. I find the boat to be much faster than that resort monorail loop.

First let me say that I can never reconmend that anyone stay at a resort that they cannot afford. If you believe that the GF is going to be a financial burden I would not reconmend you stay there as I find that people will spend most of their trip trying to justify the extra expense.

So since the monorail and location to the MK is important to you then go with the one that will fit your budget. Each of the CR, POLY and GF have their plus and minus but if you are not worried about breaking the budget I am sure you will have a great trip. Check out the prices at the POLY and CR compared to the GF and pick the one that will cause you the less financial stress.

The GF is lovely but pricey. WE have stayed there twice and have been blessed with room upgrades each time. The rooms are spacious and I do not find them in the least bit stufft. Of the monorail resorts I think the least expensive is the CR, wing rooms. We have had many enjoyable stays there and found them to be great with kids, large rooms, really colorful. Right now they are renovating them so they will only get better. I also recommend the WL for both it's price and theming. The rooms are smaller, however, but the boat to MK is great. Have also stayed at the Poly and it just didn't quite do anything for us. Go with what you feel the best about. The GF is great for being the first monorail stop going to the MK, then we would take the boat back to the hotel. A lot quicker tahn being hte last monoral stop going"home" with cranky kids.

I've done the Poly, and both Tower and Wing at the CR. The Polynesian was fantastic when I was a little kid - the pool was fun and you can't beat the beach, but it was a bit of a drag walking all the way to the main house for the monorail or a bite to eat. Love the CR Tower for that reason - and it's just exciting to see the monorail and the concourse from right outside your room. The wings weren't too bad, but didn't feel special. Walking to the TTC from the Poly was easy enough, but walking to MK from the CR is about the same, gets you to all the buses too. Have fun!

I love Poly out of the monorail resorts! Great transportation to MK and Epcot with the monorail! I think my favorite deluxe is AKL though. I know what you mean about wanting to try a different hotel for each trip. That's what we like to do too.

We honestly love the GF. That said we only stay there when we have the extra $$ to spend. When we need a more affordable stay (spring break even the Poly was $350/night with an AP rate  ) we stay at the Poly. We love both resorts. I think I would rather stay at the Poly and have the extra cash then feel I spent money I didn't have at the GF. It is a beautiful hotel but not worth overextending yourself.
