Well, you're definitely doing it right by going to your doctor. generally (I'm a RN) a 10-15% weight loss is all that is needed to make drastic health changes. He may tell you not to lose 50 pounds, but instead go for that percent loss (based on your current weight 21-32 pounds) instead. studies show that a smaller amount of weight loss (that is a realistic goal) is easier to maintain and has better long-term results.
