Which Days for Parks in November?

Holiday time at DL starts Friday, November 15th. We have 5 day park hoppers with Genie plus and will be staying on-site 9 nights. We were originally going to skip Thursday, Nov 14th because we get in late the night before, and then going to the parks Fri 15th, Sat 16th, Sun 17th, Tue 19th and Thur 20th, but am now thinking we
may be better off going Thursday 14th and skipping Fri 15th since passholders are not blocked out and it is the first day of the holidays.

What do y'all think? We have never been at Christmastime, so have no idea how the overlays, fireworks, entertainment, parade, affects crowds. Do we want more
weekend days or more week days? Do you think some of the holiday stuff may open early so we could get a head start on Thursday, 14th?

Any help would be appreciated!

Honestly, if you have five days with Genie + and Park Hoppers, you'll have more than enough time to do everything regardless of crowds.

It's not really the rides that I am worried about. We go to DW a few times a year and DL every other year, so getting on the rides
is not the issue. A less crowded park is definitely a more enjoyable park, especially when the holiday atmosphere/experiences are our main focus. At DW the shows/entertainment are every day, regardless of whether it is a weeknight or weekday. I know that is not the
case at DL and I want to make sure we can see the holiday stuff, hopefully without having to queue up a ridiculous amount of time
before because the parks are wall to wall people.

What time would you arrive on the 14th? It might be nice to get into the park the first day and then sleep in on the 15th. There will be decorations at the resort hotels and in DTD.

We would make sure to get to the gate well before rope drop. Our plane lands at 9 pm the night before (11 pm our time since we are from the Midwest), but we are determined rope droppers and are usually among the first 25 people lined up at security. It might
be a tiring first day, but I think I prefer being tired on Thursday vs being in a completely nuts park on Friday.....unless you DL
experts don't believe that Friday will be that much more crowded than Thursday.

As you know, Disneyland is not WDW. Even the best crowd calculator can't predict which days (and times of day) will be more busy. The bad thing is that you are going during a busy time of year. The good thing is that you will have five days to take it all in.

What holiday stuff are you looking to get a head start on? If you are thinking of Small World Holiday, you'll have LLMP so that will help. We still don't know what is happening with Haunted Mansion Holiday. It may be VQ and may be LLMP. But you said you weren't worried about the rides. What are you concerned about lining up for and what do you consider a ridiculous amount of time?

Last year, decorations started going up in late October. If I recall correctly, the snow on the castle went up right around October 17 (the day after Disney's 100th). These photos were from October 26. It is a gradual process, so not everything was decorated in October.

Some holiday food offerings started around the same time. This was Nov 5.

I'd go with your Thursday plan. You could have a nice relaxing day on Friday but still see decorations around DTD and the hotels. As LKing posted, you'll see decorations in the parks on Thursday, too. Plus you can get rested up for the remainder of your trip :)

Also, some people have noted that alot of vloggers show up at the parks on the first official day of the holiday season, which can make it a bit busier.

Thank you both for your help! I guess I should rephrase that we love the rides and they DO matter, but the holiday based ones
are the most important. We have been on HM holiday because we usually go during Halloweentime, but we love it and are
hoping to get on it many times. We have never done Small World holiday, so that is a must-do.

For lining up, I was mostly thinking of holiday entertainment (parade, fireworks, are there shows?). My DH is not a huge
parade or firework guy so I can only get him to wait for these items for maybe a half hour or 45 minutes. We usually watch
the fireworks in DL (if we do watch them) over by Small World so we don't have to wait for a long time in a crush of
people. Is that still a good place to watch during the holidays?

Glad to see that most of the holiday offerings will be available on Thursday. Pluto468, I agree that I believe Thursday will be
better than Friday in terms of crowds, so we will probably go with that idea. Do you know if Small World holiday usually opens
a few days early?

Parades in Disneyland are usually around 3pm and 6pm. The first parade starts at Its a Small World and ends on Main Street. The second parade starts on Main Street and ends at Small World. If you are used to watching fireworks from the terraced area at Small World, that is also a good place to watch the parade. It is a pretty big space and is above the people that are sitting on the ground. It looks like you might be a party of adults, so it isn't like you have a 5 year old who needs to be front row, waiving at the characters. How far in advance you get there depends on how close to the front you want to be. The first days will be more crowded but, again, you will have 10 opportunities during your five day trip to watch it.

Small World is a good place to view the fireworks and projections, but it isn't my favorite because they are off to the side. I've done Main Street which is crowded but can be really pretty with the holiday decorations. If you are willing to get there an hour (or more depending on the day) in advance, you might try to watch near the castle. That is my favorite place to watch the fireworks and projections. It is also the place where people start lining up the earliest. A very different view would be from Rivers of America (see Fantasmic below)

For Fantasmic, I strongly recommend that you purchase a dining package. If you are planning on eating in Blue Bayou, they offer a Fantasmic dining package for $89. River Belle Terrace has one for $55 and Rancho del Zocalo has one for $35. You can find the menus on the Disneyland website.

For all three dining packages, you will be sitting on the ground (bring a blanket or sweatshirt to sit on). The first Fantasmic show starts at 9 pm. Seating is first come, first served. If you want to sit in the front or towards the center, I would arrive an hour in advance. If you don't mind sitting 4-5 rows back, or sitting on the side, you'll get good seats 30 min before the show. Personally, I wouldn't push it to arriving 15 min before the show, but some people in the Fantasmic thread did and were satisfied with their view.

Immediately after Fantasmic (3 min), the fireworks start and you can watch them from where you watched Fantasmic. They do, however, ask for everyone to stand. Once those with dining packages stand, they open the area to other guests.

The second Fantasmic show is at 10:30 pm. It is much less crowded than the first show. If you have a dining package, they don't start seating people until closer to 10 pm. I've watched Fire of the Rising Moon fireworks (in SWGE) at 9:30 pm and hustled to get to Fantasmic and was able to get a decent standby view for the 10:30 show. I was, however, waiting about 40 min for the show. I know my way around the parks in the dark and I know the better viewing locations so it might be more difficult for someone who isn't as familiar with the park. If you are interested in something like this, I can talk you through how to do it.

I'm a picture person. Here are some fireworks pictures to give you an idea of the views from different locations.

I'm pretty sure it will open on the 15th, but I could be wrong.

Thank you so much! Those pictures really help me see how different the views are! I will definitely try
to get a spot in front of the castle. Do they only have projections (no pyro) on weekdays during the holidays, too? If so, is that only Friday and Saturday or does Sunday count as a pyro night, too?

You are correct that we are empty nesters and don't need to be right up front for parades. I am
short, so don't want to be behind 5 rows of people on one level, but if we are raised up, I would be totally fine being further away.

Thank you also for your kind offer to help me with Fantasmic seating! We have shied away from the
DL Fanstamic because my DH has back problems and can't sit on the ground for long periods of time.
We see the DW version fairly often because there are bleachers to sit on. I was looking forward to
seeing the Fire of the Rising Moon fireworks, but then realized that they won't be shown during the holidays because of the different fireworks, so I will see them the next visit.

Projections should be 7 days a week. I'm not sure what days they have fireworks during the holiday season. Even if fireworks are on the schedule, if there is too much wind at a certain elevation, the fireworks will be cancelled.

For the parades, the front is more for interaction with the walking characters and dancers. The characters on floats are elevated.

For Fantasmic, the dining package area is at a slight incline. People sitting farther back are marginally higher than those in the front, but it is not terraced.
