which day of week to fly?? CHEAP???

I just wondered if there is a day of the week that is cheaper to fly? We are travelling in oct and our dates are flexible...how do we get the cheapest fare?

First of all, download DING! from the Southwest website.

Once it's installed, open it up and run it a few days. You will not get Dings for October flights for a while, but you will see Dings for flights closer to now. You can see patterns of when and how SWA comes out with their Dings, and try to be ready for when they come out with October fares and Dings.

For example, I went ahead and booked our SWA flight from Nashville to LAX in June at the "internet special" fare. It's fairly cheap, but not quite Ding cheap. Since I've done that I've been watching Dings. They don't have them yet for June travel, but for April travel I notice that the Dings for my particular flight are best on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These fares are half off what I booked at. Unfortunately, we're not that flexible with our flight dates/times, as our hotel is already booked and vacation time planned out.

But if you are flexible, I definitely recommend the Ding approach.

I have only flown JetBlue and continental and Tuesdays are definitely t he best days!

We can't get direct flights on SouthWest, and trying to figure out how to book multiple "legs" without wasting an entire day was making my head hurt.

The last e-mail I got from American with a fare sale was for travel on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday. I am hoping to see a similar deal for early December - we'll go on a Saturday and come home on a Tuesday.
