Which Coaster?

We are staying onsite in Nov and both DH and I like rollercoasters. It's been many years since we've ridden a big coaster since the kids are young and still leery of inversions. We have been to Six Flags and no big coasters for us since we don't want to make the kids wait an hour or split up that long. But since we have EP we plan to ride one and make the kids wait the 10 mins. :smooth: So my question is, between RRR and Hulk (I think those are the 2 proper coasters - Mummy doesn't count in my mind). Which one is smoother? That's generally what makes or breaks a coaster for me.

Everyone feels it differently, and can depend on where you sit.

On RRR we always ask for the front, and so far have been fortunate to get it. Last time I rode almost at the back I was so ill I had to go back to the hotel for a couple of hours. Was a few years ago now, so the front is important to me.

On The Hulk, again I prefer the front.....even the first few rows.....but do prefer the back for more airtime......not sure that`s perceived or not but we enjoy it........I usually find the last few turns rock my head regardless what seat I`m sat in.......but it is smoother than it used to be for me.

However some find the both rough and some find them both smooth. Difficult choice......

RRR shakes my brain every time I ride it. I don't know what it is about it. FYI, there are no inversions on RRR, so if that's what's holding your kiddos back, it might be a good intro to big coasters for them..... buuuuut that lift hill is terrifying, even for me!

If I could only pick one of the two coasters, I'd pick Hulk, hands down. But I prefer Mummy to both of them, LOL!!

I find that the Hulk bangs my head around a little more than RRR, but the ascent for RRR stresses me out. Its completely vertical and for some reasons that just messes with me. I think either pick would be fine- both are amazing roller coasters and you will have a blast on either.

I like rrr better than hulk.

And yep, no actual inversions on rrr.

I did have to google the ride vehicles after we rode because I couldn't figure out how my kid wasn't falling out of the seat on the hill. :)

Mummy doesn't count??? It's the best of them all!

Really? Huh. Reading the Uni description it sounded like it had a corkscrew. We'll in that case my middle daughter might be game. She's the most adventurous. My son isn't tall enough yet.

Well, since I'm totally wrong about rrr maybe I'm wrong about Mummy too. I'm under the impression it's an indoor screen ride with moving coaster-like car similar to Gringotts but more of a thrill ride. Do I have that right?

You're sorta right about The Mummy (there are a couple of screens, but not like other "screen rides"), but I wouldn't compare it to a new-tech ride like Gringotts. It's a straight-up indoor coaster with drops, stops, backwards, and a launch. It's my personal favorite ride at Universal. The first 30 seconds of The Hulk is my favorite thing at Universal, but my overall favorite ride is The Mummy.

edit: jdrum3 and I replied at the same time, and apparently we are long lost besties lol

I like both Hulk and RRR. As far as 'roughness', I find them to be about equal and maybe in the middle of a 'roughness' scale. I'll put it this way - they are both fun, but I'm ready to get off both of them about 19 seconds before they end. ;)

If I had to pick one, it would he Hulk. We usually ride that several times per trip. We usually try to shoot for once per day - occasionally twice. RRR is a once-per-trip ride.

Mummy is a 2 - 3 times per day ride for us ;)

I can't do RRR. It banged my head around so hard I cried. Gave me a migraine. I can't handle bad vibrations.

Before the refurb, Hulk was too jerky for me as well, but I've found that after the refurb, if I sit in the front, I can handle it now. There are a few moments where it can cause me some discomfort, but overall I'm ok. I can't do it more than once.

Mummy is the best in my opinion, and if you are going to wait in a queue, the Mummy is one of the best. We try to do the regular queue at least once each trip. Lots of neat stuff to look at, fun storyline, and a few interactive activities sprinkled in along the way. Have the kinds find and activate the "protection" spell before riding to keep them safe.

Mummy is an actual coaster just with animatronics and special effects. Parts of it kind of remind me of Rock N Roller Coaster at Disney. It just starts and stops a few times instead of being continuous, so you aren't really going non stop full out the whole time. However, that's what I like about it because just as it starts getting to me, we stop for a little while. My brain can then recover and be ready to go again. It doesn't give my brain time to really start hurting.

You do need to know when to brace yourself; though, as there are a couple of abrupt stops that can really slam you around if you aren't expecting them. First time I rode it, I hated it because of that. But now that I know when to brace, it's fine, and I love it. Also, there are a couple of moments that do get a little bad, but they end so quickly that I can tolerate them. I can usually do it 2 to 3 times in a row before I have to stop.
