Which clothing do you hang for your kids in their closet?

We'll moving up to our new rooms soon and I need to maximize space in their bureaus and closets.

Each bureau only has 4 drawers.

#1 underwear/socks, etc.
#2 pajamas/sweats
#3 shirts/pullovers
#4 jeans/pants

I'm curious as to how you all organize without stuffing everything into the drawer which your kids inevitably mess up after we've folded them and placed them in there nicely.

:)

DD has an adjustable shelving/rod system in her closet. Several weeks ago I cleaned out her room and redid her closet. I got one of those storage bins with 3 drawers and put it on the floor of her closet. I put her play clothes in these drawers. Tops in one, bottoms in another & sneakers in the 3rd. Only dresses and good clothes are hanging in the closet now. Her dresser has 3 drawers and holds sheets, towels & blankets in one, pajamas in another and underwear, socks & tights in the 3rd. I feel there is now so much more room in her closet as well as her dresser now.

*edited to add:

By changing things around DD is now able to help put away her laundry as well as select her clothes for school each day. She wasn't able to reach anything before I changed her closet.

well, I might be the minority. But I dont hang anything up. DD's do. They are 6 and 7 and have been hanging up their own clothes for 2 years now.

They have expansive dressers, better than mine actually! DD 7 has a 3 drawer chest in 1/2 her closet, in that is socks/undies, school short sleeve shirts, and leggins/wind pants.

In DD7's large dresser with 9 drawers are pjs, sweatshirts, play clothes, etc..

(basically the same for DD6)

In their dressers are ANYTHING they wear to school, except short sleeve school shirts. Turtle necks, sweaters, jeans, dresses, pants, etc...

I fold their clothes, and put them on their bed, they sort them and put them away.

DS has 4 drawers. They contain:
Top Drawer: Underwear, socks, hats, belts
2nd Drawer: Shorts and bathing suits
3rd Drawer: T Shirts, Polo Shirts
4th Drawer: PJs, boxers, flannel sleep pants, etc

Hanging in the closet we have:
Pants
Long sleeve T's(We're in FL and don't use these as much)
Button Down Shirts
Sweaters
Jackets

DD11 is a little different
Bottom dresser drawer holds shorts & junky T-shirts
Top dresser drawer holds PJs, bathing suits, socks and undies

The closet holds "nice" t-shirts, long sleeve Tees, dresses, pants, capris, and jackets.

In the drawers I put: underwear, socks, swimsuits, shorts, short-sleeve t-shirts, also have one drawer for thermals, gloves, toboggans (not sure on the spelling), anything for cold/snowy weather.

In the closet: things that take up more room like jeans and long pants, long sleeve shirts, sweat shirts & pants (these seem too bulky for drawers) all church clothes or anything that wrinkles easily.

We have an older home and the closets (there are 2 ) in his room are neat, but a little odd. They are like big built in cabinets with storage cabinets on top. The clothes rods are at my height 5 9, so he can't reach them! I hang his long sleeved t's and button downs the jeans and pants arefolded in the shelf above that. I put underwear, socks pj's and play clothes in the drawer. The second closet I hang all of his summer shirts in....HE's 5 and 4ft 2 so I'm sure he;ll be able to reach soon, but for now I pick out his school clothes, I usually ask if he wants anything in particular, but he can' reach to get them down yet...I do have him put away and fold the "drawer" stuff though.

Dd has lots of closet space. Everything is hung except for socks, underwear & jammies.

School clothes (pants, shirts, dresses/skirts for my dd). Play stuff and everything else go into their chest of drawers.

I don't have to worry about this anymore since Travis has his own apartment now.

When he was still living at home he had a Captain's bed that had 8 drawers. When he was a teenager he had a waterbed with 8 drawers like the captain's bed.

That really helped a lot. Never could keep them straightened, though.

I hung up his dress shirts, dress pants, casual shirts(not t-shirts) and slacks and folded everything else, including his jeans :)

DS has 2 good sized closets and 2 (smaller) dressers. His closets are mainly used for storage and everything else goes in the dressers.
The only things I hang are button down shirts and dress pants, which he rarely wears. In the other closet I have all of our extra coats and a few of my dresses.
The dressers drawers are
dresser #1
underwear, socks, pj's
t-shirts
video tapes
dresser #2
sweat shirts / long sleeve shirts
out of season stuff
sweat pants and jeans
