Which city and why?

My husband will be traveling for 6 weeks this summer for his job, so we have decided that I will fly into one of the cities to visit him. Some of the cities he will be in are still undecided, but as it stands now it looks like Atlanta and San Francisco are 2 that he will be in. Out of those two, which would you suggest going to (I've never been to either of them) and why?

San Francisco over Atlanta, IMHO.

More to see and do. And the weather's nicer in the summer. Atlanta can be stifling in the summer.

If memory serves, San Francisco isn't far from the wine country, either - could make for a romantic weekend.

Of course, there's Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, and lots of culture in SF that you won't find in Atlanta.

Not putting down Atlanta, but ya made me choose!

Nothing against Atlanta, but I think San Francisco has to be one of the prettiest and most unique cities I have ever visited. Just so very many things that are ONLY in San Fran. JMO.

San Francisco, most definitely! It's an amazing city with TONS to do. :)

I live about 2 1/2 hours from Atlanta. I've been there.:p But I've never been to San Fran.:) I'd pick San Fran.:)

San Francisco without a doubt! Beautiful city -- tons of things to do -- Golden Gate Bridge -- Fisherman's Wharf--did I mention beautiful city? My folks lived across the bay in Oakland and I loved to visit and always had to take a trip over to San Francisco.

Well, I'm a bit biased ;) San Francisco is where I'm from originally.
I would chose it :teeth:

Disnee Dad Says..................................S.F. by far!

Just in the city. Fishermans Wharf, Pier 39, Blue and White cruises into the bay, Angel Island, Alcatraz, Japantown, the zoo, Coit Tower, shopping on market street, the trolley cars, fresh crab, the ocean. That's probably 20% of the things to do in S.F.

The real joy is outside the city.

Wine country is little more than an hour away. Just so you know, we go to NAPA for auto parts, we go to Sonoma for wine! Go to Sonoma, Rutherford, Calistoga, for an all day trip.

Two hours south is Carmel, and Monterray( very bad spelling!)
See the aquarium, and do go do 17 mile drive, pack a picnic lunch if you have time. Have a drink at Pebble Beach Lodge, or shop at the shops. The promised land for golfers! Then head into Carmel for massive shopping, the whole town seems to be stores!
Eat at the Fishwife, if you get a chance.

If you like history, head east. A little over two hours is Coloma, the site that started the gold rush, and if you really crave gold Reno is 90 minutes past Coloma!

So there you have it, the top 20% of things to see, you don't want to know about the other 80% , you'd have to move here to do it all!

I'd pick San Francisco over just about anywhere in the world. I think you will really enjoy this city, it is so unique.

Thanks everybody! I was leaning towards San Fransisco to begin with so you all made my mind up for me. Now I just need to make arrangements for my kids.........

I would chose San Fransisco too. There is a lot to do there, and the weather is nicer than Atlanta in the summer.

I've been to both places and I can say that you're making a great choice by going to SF. I was glad that I didn't spring for my family to join me in Atlanta. Not enough to do their... when compared to SF.
