Hello there! I'm going to Disneyland during spring break. My daughter's band is performing there! :goodvibes We've been to Disneyland many times, but have never done any of the character meals. I would love to do so this time, but I can't decide on which one to do! Can anybody offer some suggestions? I don't think I care about the food as much as seeing cool characters. My daughter isn't a "princess" type, so we're thinking about characters like you might see in the jungle book or peter pan.

Thanks!

If you want Peter Pan characters, Captain Hook is usually at the Minnie and Friends breakfast inside Disneyland, at the Plaza Inn, along with characters form Winnie the Pooh, Chip, Dale, Fairy Godmother, Gepetto, etc. If you go over to the Disneyland Trip Reports section and check out The Wazowski Report, Jasmine has a lot of pictures from her meals at Minnie and Friends. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1986026

Goofy's Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel is my favorite character meal/breakfast and my favorite DLR restaurant - I never miss it on a trip to DLR. Great food, both in quality and veriety. There are tons of things to choose from so even the pickiest of eaters can be satisfied. I suggest the breakfast over the dinner, though. I wasn't as thrilled with the dinner options, but the breakfast is fantastic. Mickey-shaped cobbler!! Bananas Foster crepes. Fluffy croissants. Biscuits and gravy. Out of this world bacon. The FRUIT is amazingly fresh, sweet and juicy. The potatoes, eggs and Mickey waffles are great. Pizza (not just P, B & J, but also regular cheese and pepperoni for kids) is available for breakfast too. Worms and dirt for the kids. Delicious min-muffins. Lox and bagels. It goes on and on. I am barely even scratching the surface. There is so much more.

The regular characters who are always there are Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale and Baloo. I always see them. Then there are rotating characters who switch weeks or days so you never know who you will get, but they can include Alice and the Mad Hatter, Jasmine and Aladdin, Aurora and the Prince, Belle, sometimes Minnie and Max, etc. Sometimes, in the early morning there can be fewer characters because the restaurant is not as busy yet. As it starts to get busier, more characters arrive. Dinner can sometimes bring out more characters because it tends to be busier than breakfast, but I just prefer the breakfast. We have had times where the characters were coming so fast and furious to the table that we couldn't get a bite of food - which, frankly, got to be annoying because I wanted to eat! Other times, they seem to visit you at a better pace, where you meet and take pictures with one character, then eat some of your food for a bit, then the next one comes to your table, then you can eat, then the next characters come, etc. I like it better that way. Some other folks like the fast and furious character visits. On days when it is slower and you only have the main core characters, those same characters spend more time with you and come back repeatedly to your table, which seems to please a lot of kids we see. I love it at Goofy's and so do my friends. It is a great way to start our day and has been a 'must' for every DLR trip over the last 16+ years.

If you want to see some of the characters that I have encountered at Goofy's from 1992 to 2008, check out my Trip Report for pictures. Some of the older ones do still show up once in a blue moon, but are not expected anymore as they used to be. Here is the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1979268

I have done the Storytellers Chip and Dale character meal twice. The first time I saw Rafiki, Timon, Meeko, Chip, Dale and Baloo (all of whom have been at Goofy's as well). The second time I saw Koda, Kenai, Chip, Dale and I think Baloo popped in at the last minute. It is nice atmosphere in Storyteller's Cafe - nice and cozy, warm, inviting - but I wasn't as thrilled with the food there and I strongly prefer and recommend Goofy's over Storytellers for the all-around experience. Also, even though I appreciate the woodsy-jungly Disney character theme they are aiming for, I prefer the more classic characters at Goofy's.

How weird would it be for two 30 YO best friends to go with NO kids??? HA HA we are BIG KIDS!!!!

If you look at my Trip Report (link below in signature) and see my pictures from Goofy's Kitchen over the course of 16 years (and just a few from Storytellers too), you will notice that there are NO KIDS in any of them. It is just us adults! All of my adult friends who I have turned on to Goofy's have loved it too. And we are now 40 years old and above!!!! So you won't be out of place at all!

COOL....we are most likely staying at the DLH...should I book the one there?

If you want an extremely relaxing character breakfast - we especially like the one at Storytellers in the GCH.

It features Chip and Dale, Koda and Kenai from Brother Bear, Miko the racoon from Pocahontas, Turk from Tarzan, Sometimes Bre'er Rabbit and Bre'er Bear from Song of the South, and the Ranger - who is absolutely hysterical. They actually play a lot of games with the kids, including a Follow-the-Leader game. More interactive than Goofy's in some ways.

Also, the restaurant is extremely cozy, with 2 big fireplaces and a big brick oven behind the buffet. It is the quietest of all the character breakfast restaurants - even when it's to capacity. The sound is absorbed much better. Goofy's is good with good character interaction, but it can be extremely chaotic depending on where you are sitting. Lilo and Stitch has excellent food, probably the best food and best selection, but it's downfall is the noise of the restaurant.

Another plus - you can also order off the menu for all meals and are not limited to ordering the buffet if you want to spend less money.

That is Goofy's. And I am a 100% Goofy's enthusiast. I have never been there for breakfast when it is terribly chaotic, but I hear that it can get crazy around dinner. It is costly, but I feel it is worth it for all the reasons stated in my above post. So I say YES! Try it! And look at my TR to see silly, goofy adults with NO children hamming it up with the characters at Goofy's so you will know you can ham it up safely too!!

I also vote for Storytellers! I love the quiet warm cozy feeling you get there. It wakes you up slowly...you can enjoy your breakfast, meet some characters and then have a short walk to either park. I also like that you can order off the menu, which I usually do, if you do not want the buffet.
Do breakfast there & you literally have a minute walk to DCA! Whichever you choose you will enjoy! :)

Not at all weird. :)

I'm a big kid at heart, and even my room mate survived 5 character meals although she's not that big on characters. ;)

We liked Goofy best, mainly because of the dessert options there. Storytellers definitely is the most relaxing meal as mentioned.

The one I wouldn't recommend is Minnie's at the Plaza Inn. It was the only meal where we got skipped by characters, and we all had the nagging feeling it was because our table was all adults. Also it was our least favorite food-wise.

1. Lilo and Stitch - I can sum it up with 2 words... "Coconut scones" Yum.
This has never been crowded location and we generally do it on our drive home day and even pocket some of the scones for the drive home. (eez that sounds bad.) Lots of character interaction (Lilo, Stitch, Minnie, Daisy, Pluto), very easy for the kids to get out and about with the characters and great opportunities for pictures. (Not lots of tables or booths that lock you in to a small area). In the past they had games for the kids to play, with a "camp" director. Island Food, of course I don't remember seeing Spam.

2. Goofy's kitchen - Lots of characters (always changing, mixture of princesses and other classic characters and some villians), but you could hit it during a shift rotation or if it is crowded it is a big place, so you might be up and about when a character is in your area. Food has always been good and I think the only place were you can get Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with a character experience. Dancing with the kids and characters is fun Can be very crowed at times.

3. Storytellers - I haven't been here in a while. This one probably had the least characters (chip and Dale, Meeko, Pulto, kuda, rafeke), but the food was so good. California style food, yeah who else has aspargaus and spinach for breakfast (I love it). Table very close together and made it hard to move around

4 (Tie) Ariels - Princesses.. haven't been here in a couple of years, but the food was terrible at that time, the princesses seemed to race through the tables. If you hit it wrong, you could miss seeing characters, unless you waited until the next round of the princesses racing through.

5. (tie) Minnie and Friends - Food was terrible, You had to manage your own drink, silverware and food all on one tray and then try to get through the crowd of people. Lots of characters (Minnie, Pooh characters, Donald, etc), but this tended to be crowded and so it was hard to get interaction with the characters.
(Only one in the park, so this is a plus for most people. If time is important, than probably would suggest this one).
