Hey,
going to be in Disneyland in less than 2 weeks!! It is mid week in low season, so im not expecting many crowds!!

I am thinking about a character meal. Which one would you go for? There are 3 adults.

I was thinking maybe Chef Mickey's, or Inventions at the disneyland hotel.

Can you tell me what you think of these, and how much (in £££s) it will cost approximatly per head?

Thanks

If you have a look in the restaurant sticky you'll find reviews to a number of character meals.

Of the two you've suggested I'd go for Cafe Mickey as Innventions was not one we enjoyed.
Another which might fit what you would like to do is The Lucky Nugget :)

for adults I would actually say inventions is a good choice. we were just there - we went twice last week - once at 6pm and once at 9.30pm.
both were amazing meals. there was a huge spread with great variety and a good deal of tradtional French food - no frogs legs but more or less everything else. the desserts were incredible too.
The characters made lots of time for everyone.
I didn't enjoy Cafe Mickey as the food was a bit bland and it didn't seem like very good value for money. The characters didn't spend much time with anyone unless it was a birthday.
If you were looking for a lunch, Lucky Nugget and Auberge de Cendrillon were both great - obviously different characters!

miffy can I ask which characters you saw and where as it seems from the reports I have read, and I'm cross-eyed reading them, that there is quite a different mix of characters that pop out?

I'm going to book the Birthday Tea at the Plaza Gardens but am thinking about booking another one perhaps the Lucky Nugget.

thanks for your opinions so far. So how much were they each per head? i cant see the price ranges but im trying to budget!

If you look on DLP food guide (sorry cant post link) it will give you prices.

Inventions is a set price buffet whereas Cafe Mickey is a menu so you can choose what you want.

Hi we were at cafe Mickey a couple of weeks ago and did not enjoy it. They tried to squash 5 of us around a table made for 4 and we had a reservation. The charachters were very rushed and left before they had been to all the tables, was kind of luck of the draw who you got.
The service was slow and the food was cold. DN had 3 lots of chicken nuggets which were stone cold before we gave up and ordered her fish. We had 2 steaks which again had to go back due to being cold and as such were unable to eat our meals as a family. They brought DSiL her main at same time as those having starters got their starters. We had to wait over 30 mins for our desserts. The quality of food, i thought was better across the road in mc donalds. The manager did come and apologise and gave us a discount but i wouldn't go back back. Cannot comment on other character dining as we did not do any.

I did Cafe Mickey 2 nights ago. It was very slow. The character interaction wasn't great. We were seated upstairs & about 5 mins past the hour 4 characters came out and did a tour of the tables. In the first set (Pluto, Friar Tuck, Goofy & Mr Smee), 2 of them came to our table & then they left (at about half past) before getting round all the tables. Whenever someone has a birthday, all the characters go off to sing 'Happy Birthday', so I think they just didn't bother coming back to finish our area. Fortunately, it took 50 mins for me to get the bill & we were there for another set of characters (Tigger, Mickey, Sheriff of Nottingham, Geppetto) and as there were 3 sets of birthdays in tables around us, we got to meet all of them. The food was great & hot & we were stuffed.

Cafe Mickey's does seem a bit hit or miss doesn't it? I've read lots of negative reviews but just as many positive ones. It does make you think though. We are booked for this coming Thursday :) so hopefully it will be a good experience! Then there is also the Lucky Nugget but I'm not sure if I'll book that or not for our last full day as this was supposed to be a budget trip and I've blown that ::yes::! However I've read many excellent reviews about it if you don't choose Cafe Mickey's or Innoventions. I understand that at the Lucky Nugget the food is tex mex but not too spicy. If I go I will photographing the buffet because I haven't been able to find any pictures of it online. They also have a live band but I'm not sure what times they play :confused3.

Yes, it does seem to be. We've eaten there twice, both at very busy times, and have been very lucky with both our character interaction and our food, so I do hope you have a great time.

I'd also recommend Inventions, we haven't eaten here recently but the food was delicious when we did.

I did intend to photograph the buffet at Lucky Nugget when we ate there last month but it was very crowded in there so it wasn't really possible to do so, I think I would have ended up with photos of people's backs rather than the food. :rotfl: It would be great if you could do the honours if you do go. :thumbsup2

The band seems to play for about 15 minutes, then takes 15 minutes break, then comes back again........I love it, it really adds to the atmosphere. We had a great time there, I am still on a high from being tapped on the back whilst standing in the buffet queue and turning round to find it was Minnie Mouse who proceeded to pour yogurt dressing all over my plate of dessert! :cloud9:

Ware Bears you have helped me make my mind up..I think ;). I'm torn between the newly opened Agrabah Café and the Lucky Nugget. We ate at the Tangerine Cafe in WDW and the food sounds simular..the food was just delicious! We had the Shawarma there and Raptor mentioned in his post that it is served at the Agrabah too. Yummy stuff! So if I wanted to stay on budget and use our vouchers the Agrabah sounds brilliant. Only..I never manage to stay on budget! Plus, your story with Minnie :rotfl: and the live band are swaying me :goodvibes .

Yes Melody, you can use them for face value and then pay the difference :) . We have the standard half board and they are worth what we paid, 17 Euro each towards a meal.

Thanks :)

I believe we have the half board plus vouchers.. im hoping we get given them when we check in as they never came with all the tickets and papers the other day :confused3

Am i right in thinking then, that you can book a charachter meal and then hand over the voucher with extra money at the time of the meal? or do you pay in advance too?

edinburghlass - characters in lucky nugget were a selection of who was around that day. minnie, goofy and robin hood were there both times we went. smee, scrooge mcduck and captain (?) radcliffe from pocahontas were there too. friar tuck managed to gesture dd to finish her food.

all the characters were different in inventions except minnie who was at both the second day.we saw chip and dale, tweedledum and tweedledee, tigger, eeyore, pinocchio and a penguin from mary poppins.
with inventions we had better luck with characters when we went early. the food is just great there.

kristina - from memory lucky nugget had fish dishes both times, meatball dishes both times, bolognese, pizza, chips, rice plus loads of salads (chicken salad, couscous, carrot, tomato n mozzarella etc) and tortilla chips and dips. the desserts were lovely.
