Trying to decide which Character Dining to choose! I have a 3 1/2 year old who's favorite show is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, an 11 yr old girl who is NOT a girlie girl (i.e. not really into princess stuff) and a 14 yr old boy who will be bored out of his mind no matter where we pick...lol. What is the best place to go for a Character Dining experience? We have never been able to afford one but since we are saving money on the hotel this time, we are going to be able to squeeze one in. Which one would everyone pick for their first time experience? We will be there from August 14-20, if that matters.

I'd probably pick something that has characters you think everyone would enjoy.

Your DS may enjoy more than you think! My son has always enjoyed it. We really enjoy the Garden Grill in Epcot. Mickey, Chip & Dale, and Pluto are usually there. We also really like Chef Mickey's breakfast. Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, and Donald are usually there. We usually do a late breakfast and then don't eat lunch. It is also one of the cheaper character meals, if cost is of any importance. It is in the Contemporary and easy to access via monorail from Magic Kingdom or Epcot. Chef Mickey's has a funner atmosphere so I might vote that one for a first! It is also a buffett with many choices! Make a choice ASAP and MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!

You are on the DisneyLAND board. :) Wrong coast.

OP, we all really enjoy Goofy's Kitchen.

I'd go with either Goofy's Kitchen (which I've been to many times over the past 20 or so years that it's been open, and highly recommend) or the Minnie & Friends breakfast (which I've not been to, but from what I've observed from the outside/read about here I'm guessing that those are the characters your kids would be interested in seeing).

Hmmm...this a tough choice. I think it's safe to say that we can rule out the Princess meal at Ariel's!:rotfl2: Also, I really don't think the Critter Breakfast's (at the GCH) characters would be the best choice for a first character meal.

So that leaves us with Goofy's Kitchen, Minnie & Friends or Surf's Up with Mickey. While my personal favorite is Goofy's (huge buffet with a large variety of food and a mixture of furry characters along with a couple of Princesses), it is the most expensive meal next to Ariel's.

I am thinking that Minnie & Friends or Surf's Up with Mickey would be the best choices for your family.

Minnie & Friends has the most characters out of all the character meals, and people love it for that reason. There may be anywhere from 8 - 14 characters there at a time. You can find Minnie, Chip & Dale, as well as Pooh characters, Captain Hook and many others. It gets mixed reviews on the food.

Surf's Up (at the Paradise Pier Hotel), while having fewer characters than Minnie & Friends and a smaller buffet than Goofy's Kitchen, gets rave reviews for the character interaction. This is the only meal where you will find Mickey! You can also see Stitch, sometimes Minnie, sometimes Pluto, sometimes Donald or Daisy, sometimes Goofy (in surf attire), etc.
