Didn't quite know where to post this question, but figured since I use my cell phone to save money on long distance calls, this should be the place.

I am getting ready to change my cellphone provider (dumping cellular one) and am wondering how the reception at Disney is on any of the following:

Nextel ? ATT Wireless ? Cingular ? T-Moblie ?

Also if anyone knows how about reception in Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge TN ?

Thanks
Steph

You didn't have this on your list..but Verizon is wonderful...never hit a dead spot on any of Disney property.

I have cingular and never had a problem getting reception there.

nextel is wonderful and has recently moved to nationwide you can Two-way from almost all major areas, orlando, ny, cali and so on. Also i had my nextel and disney last year and had great service. My gf had AT&T and had horriable service. Hope this helps

Sprint is hideous! If you walk a few steps you lose contact, walk back you can hear again... It is awful.

Verizon is wonderful, works great

I can't get Verizon in my area, nor Sprint. A friend of mine is "testing" a phone from AT&T and Cingular and I brought them both home today to see how they did. AT&T failed the works at the house test, but Cingular did fairly well. So think I will "test" Cingular myself for a few days. Nextel works at my house also but needed to know what worked in the areas that I vacation in, so thanks for the responses.

We've been very pleased with T-Moblie. We never noticed a dead spot at Disney.

I used to have ATT. It was a few years ago, and I dont recall having a problem in WDW (but I didn't use it much).

I know Sprint isn't an option, but we have Sprint and have had no problems in WDW.

ps - My wife used to have Cellular One. Good move dropping them - they sucked! (Sorry - there was no nicer way to say that)

We were there in Dec and used AT&T. They were great! They allowed me to change my calling plan for the month so I would not have any roaming fees ($34.95/mo - 500 anytime minutes, free long distance and 250 nights and weekends free). Once I got home, I could change back to my normal $29.99 plan with no penalties. :D I used them quite a bit in Disney and never had any times when I couldn't reach anyone. Heck, I think my sister, who was home here in Pa called me MORE than she does when I'm home!

Have had no problems with AT&T (but maybe it's because I always use a Disney ring-tone). But we do the same thing as Colleen A - change our calling base to Florida and then switch back when we get home.

We have Verizon and they worked great at WDW. Didn't hit any dead spots and we used them alot.

Have a Great Disney Trip!!!!

We have T-Mobile with the unlimited Family to Family plan, and it is awesome for Disney. You have personal "walkie-talkies." And, it was rather inexpensive. $69.00/month for unlimited T-Mobile to T-Mobile (I don't know how many other minutes/month. I think 800 weekday and unlimited weekends...all of our family members have T-Mobile, so we never call anyone else on them.)

Word of advice to those who switch the plan with AT&T for a month and then go back to your old plan, do you know that by doing that you are extending your contract also?
In other words if you have plan A and you had it for six months, you only have six more months to finish your contract but if you switch to plan B for one month , your contract starts all over again, in other words you are stuck for another 12 months. Then you switch back to plan A again, you are starting your contract again. I know because I had AT&T and that's one of the things they don't tell you.

Thank you :) DH and I have Nextel and I was hoping we'd be able to use direct connect at WDW. (One potential problem out of the way, yay! :D)

Before our trip last April I called Verizon to see if Orlando was one of my covered areas. They said no - but for the same price I was paying they could switch plans and Orlando would be covered AND I would get free long distance calls (which I didn't currently have).

So check out all the plans available.

We used AT&T and T-Mobil last summer and had no problems. Our friends had Nextel and they couldn't use their direct connect.

We have had AT&T for the last 5 years and have used it alot all over Disney and have never had a problem. We'll be sticking with AT&T, we find it very dependable.

Glad to hear Verizon works great :) This May will be my first trip back since I changed over from Sprint and I was wondering how the reception would be. (BTW, Sprint worked well for me, except I couldn't get a signal whenever I was inside my room at the PORiverside, but when I walked outside the room, it jumped up to full power. Weird!)

We haven't gone to MK yet so I can't help you there, but we live in the Smoky Mtn. area so I will say, I have Cingular, it has great reception, but the best we've found for the mountainous areas has to be ATT/Suncom. DH has it.

You do get a lot of dead spots here because of the mountains. Most have decent coverage in town, but the minute you hit a curvy road you lose coverage!
