Hi!

This is my first trip to WDW. My DF & I will be staying at POR for our honeymoon.

Which building(s) do you recommend?
Sarah

When is your trip? Are you staying in the mansions or Riverside? Do you have any requests? Like near quiet pool, or main pool, near the food court, near a bus stop. Will you have a car?

It all depends on what you are looking for before people can make recommendations.

Also if you look back through several pages on threads you will find others that have discussed these same issues.

Sorry! As soon as I reread the post I realized I was WAAYY too vague.

So we will be staying aug. 15-22. I honestly don't know which section we are in currently. I booked with a travel agent :( who really wasn't that great. I knew way more about disney than she did from the boards. Interestingly enough, I saved $150 booking through her vs. what disney quoted me for the exact same package. Though I know now that I sacrificed flexablity.

I have looked and looked through the other postings (I've gotten about 10 pages in). But I'll keep looking. I know how annoying it is to answer the same question over and over. I just wish PO had a resort thread like the others.

So were looking for something romantic. Both AB and the mansions appeal to me and my DF, but I'd like more opinions so I can request the best section for me!

Thanks
Sarah

We have stayed at POR 2 times and both times we have stayed in the mansions--Magnolia Bend building. It is absolutely beautiful. It is a walk to the food court, main swimming pool--but a pleasant walk. It has a quiet pool and beautiful landscaping, complete with lovely white gazebo. Needless to say, we had our two children with us, but I think it would be very romantic for newlyweds.

Harleyqueen. we have stayed several times in the Alligator Bayou section of Port Orleans. We like the rustic woodsy feel of the area with the landscaping, ponds and quiet pools.

If you tell us a little more about your needs I am sure you will get lots of great locations and buildings that will suit your needs.

Do you have any requests? Like near quiet pool, or main pool, near the food court, near a bus stop. Do you want to eat at the full service restaurants at PO? Will you have a car?

Harleyquinn,

I would suggest the Mansions. The rooms are very elegant inside. I definitely think it is more romantic than the Aligator Bayou. It's also along the river which is very romantic. I would suggest the Magnolia Terrace building. It's close to the bus stop and close to the bridge to the other side of the river (via Ol' Man Isle, which is a pleasant walk.)

Just a side note, I hope that your travel agent booked the Fairytale package for you and not the regular package to save you even more money.

I'll be there 8/19-26, maybe we'll pass by each other.

Have fun, Port Orleans Riverside is a wonderful place.

Thanks for replying everyone!

I did get the FTP but only because I knew about it. I had done A LOT of research on WDW using the boards, mousesavers, and wdwig.com. I've never organized any kind of vacation before so I was hesitant to do it myself, but after using the agent, I'll probably do it myself next time.

The thing about POR is, I really don't know what I want! Both sections appeal to me, and I don't mind walking to anything though being close to a bus stop would be great.

I'd really like everyone's impressions of their stays there. What they liked or hated. What they, thinking on it now, might be something romantic to do or a particuarly romantic area to stay at.

I know this isn't very helpful.

We won't have a car...we will probably go to the restaurant once.

Ok I think I'd like to be 1. near the food court 2. close to a bus stop and 3. somewhere sorta quiet (not right next to the big pool) Can I have all three? I'll take a look at the resort map, but I'd love your suggestions!

Thanks
Sarah

Sarah our group just got back from POR about 2 weeks ago. We stayed in the AB section of POR in building 27 and really liked it. It wasn't the nearest building to the Food Court. Buildings 14 & 15 would get the nod with that. 27 is located along the river and is located close enough to the food court and the bus stop that it's a leisurely 5 minute walk but it's located far enough away that it maintains a quiet nature as it is not located right next to the main or a smaller pool either. We really liked 27 but I don't think you could go wrong with AB 14, 15, 16 or 17 either. Any further out than 27 in AB and your walk to the Food Court gets somewhat long. We like AB a little better than the mansions but they are quite nice too. Since it's your honeymoon one of the things I'd suggest would be to check out the horse drawn carriage ride at POR in the evenings. Can't get much more romantic than that! In any case I'm sure you'll like your stay at POR.

yay doubleed07 we were in bldg 27 too last oct.
and thoroughly enjoyed it although it was right on the main path we were facing so all the traffic walked by us...But it was all good.

If seclusion is what u want i believe Aligator Bayou bldgs 14-18 are "off the beaten path"

Thanks for replying!

Is the carriage thing something I book when I get to the resort? Do you know how much it costs?

Sarah

I dont rememebr his name....But that Piano Player who performs in the lounge almost every night....Hes a riot...Im kinda mad we didnt stop and hang out there...it would be like midnight ...to the point where i couldnt stand anymore so we would stop for a minute or so and watch and then just leave....but it is a fun time in the lounge....

They have the usual bike rentals......Im not sure bout boats...
but they are there and am sure those are rentable....

Okay..we are POR "vets" but not "Know it alls" BUT i can give you our opinion.....

If you like a bit longer walks in the mornings or to get to the main building...then stay in the Mansion section.

If you like a bit shorter walks to the main building...then stay at AB 14, 15, and I think 27.

We have stayed in both sides more than once and prefer the AB section..#14 or #15 for the simple fact it is a shorter walk.

BUT both sections are wonderful. They have their own "character" .

As far as the piano man...his name is Bob and he is a blast.

He plays Weds. thru Sats. from 8:30 to Midnight.

He really is a " Must see " . Its a nice way to end the day. If you are not careful, you will be included in one of his acts. But it all in fun..and it is FUN.

We will be there the same time as you guys....

Aug. 14 - 24th. .....we requested AB # 14. They try their best to accomodate you.

I would suggest calling a few days before or even now to request your particular location.

Also, take a boat ride down the river...VERY RELAXING.

Have fun !!!!!! and congrats. !!!!

We like AB section building 14 or 15. Closer to the food court and a there is a side cut to the bus stops.

I was in magnolia manor, but I think Parterre Place would be good also. Both of the buildings(mansions) are close to the food court ,bus stop, and all the major activities, except Parterre Place is a little far from the pool.

I love POR. I was going to go again for Halloween week but its under renov so Im staying at the WL. First time,,cant wait.

Here is my input. I really enjoy staying at Magnolia Terrace. If you are a non smoker...the whole bldg is non smoking. I like the proximity to the bridge to the main pool.and towards the lobby and restaurants. It has a lovely quiet pool there as well. It would be so romantic to walk with your spouse along the river. The gazebo is a lovely place to just "hangout". I always enjoyed walking around the beautifully landscaped property. When I would come home from the parks, I would see the resident bunnies that nibble on the grass. Sooo cute! I love to rent bikes and tour the entire property and over to the French Quarter. The boat ride to DD is real nice too.

Ive eaten dinner at Boatwrights and thoroughly enjoyed it. As mentioned before, the Piano Man is alot of fun. Grab a drink and join the fun.

I love this entire resort,,you really cant go wrong anywhere.

I have stayed in Magnolia Terrace and Oak Manor. I really fell in love with the Mansions. It made me feel like a southern belle lol. The resort has such a great theme. I can't speak for the AB rooms since I've never been inside them or even ventured a walk by them.

Hi Sarah,

Our family absolutely loves POR even though we have a hard time calling it that since we have been going since the beginning when it was called Dixie Landings. Since '92 we have been there approximately 3 time a year until Last year when we went to WL 2 times then for 14 days we were at AKL and WL. However POR fka DL AB is our favorite we live in South Florida and the feeling you get when you are in AB is just incredible the trees are beautiful and the walkways are quiet. The way the buildings are, there are maybe only three or four rooms on some buildings you don't get that many people passing by your window it is pretty quiet at times. Mind you all buildings aren't like that. The close buildings in AB are 14, 15, 16 and I believe 17.

We are going to POR the end of August. The last I heard if you request a close building you will be required to pay and extra I think it was $15 a night. Others may be able to confirm wether they put that into effect or not. They ware also going to implement that at the All Star's too.

Dinner at Boatwright's is nice. The boat ride to the market place is very nice. There are a couple of love seats in the lounge in front of the fireplace you can sit by and have a drink at night very romantic. My husband and I have done that.

There is so much more, but this is getting lengthy sorry I ramble but this is my favorite resort . If you have any more questions, please ask.

AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

Diane:wave:
