I don't know which board I belong on, but I need to get advice on a timeshare/ condo type place near Disney. My uncle is letting us use his timeshare but of course the DVC resorts are non available for the next 2 years!

I am interested in hearing feedback on: Calypso Cay Villas, Westage Vacation Villas, or Sheraton Vistana Resort.

OR... any other really amazing place that we should check into. The timeshare had too many to list here..but none were Disney :headache:

Thanks in advance, or just point me to the right board!!!

BTW - we're thinking of Sept of 2008!

I know when I was looking into renting a condo or home insteadd of staying on site I got some great information from the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board here on the DIS: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15.
There is also a Hotel & Accomodations Review board you may find helpful linked at the top of that page.

I know Calypso Cay is very close to DTD and Sheraton Vistana Villages is closer to Disney than Vistana Resort and a bit newer. You can check out www.tug2.net for info about timeshares...you can ask questions without being a member, or you can join and have access to all the resort reviews. Is it thru an exchange company? If it is thru II ( interval) depending on his home resort, Disney does come up for exchange.

(This is a duplicate post, sorry- my PC acted up a few minutes ago when I replied the 1st time )

The best source for timeshare questions is www.tug2.net .

We are owners at Sheraton Vistana and it's a terrific resort.

We have also stayed at Westgate Vacation Villas and it was fine.

There are many beautiful resorts in the Orlando area.

of your list - SHeraton Vistana Resort or Village

that say and go look again - any Marriott's.

also DVC resort are available but you might not have a good enough trader to get one.

Marriott Cypress Harbour
Horizon by Marriott
Marriott's Grande Vista

all are closer to SW than WDW - but still close to WDW.

Sheraton Vistana Resort is probably the closest non-wdw (DVC) timeshare to WDW.

okay forgot Cypress Pointe is really close too.

don't stay NO MATTER what in Westgate. those people are sharks and they will lie to you to get you to attend a sales pitch.

this is closer to WDW - but it does have more room and you can generally find it on Skyauction (for a week stay)

www.celebrationworldresort.com

here's where to find it
www.skyauction.com

it oftens appears in home away and ready set go auctions as well as it is own name.

stayed there a bunch. the rooms are generally clean - but for a timeshare it doesn't have alot. no restuarant, gift or general store, and doesn't have a lot of different activities.

Yep - actually it IS through II, but when I do the search for 2 entire years, none of the DVC's come up. I don't know if that's because they are booked or because my Uncle's timeshare doesn't trade for them... not sure of the ins and outs!

In my opinion the best Orlando II resort that aren't DVCs are two of the Marriott's - Cypress Harbour or Grande Vista. Beyond those you might consider:
Horizons by Marriott
Vistana Village
Cypress Pointe
Vistana Resort
the three Marriotts at the Marriott World Center (Imperial Palm, Sabal Palms, Royal Palms)

Depending upon the trade power of your uncle's timeshare these may or may not be available to you.

There are several Disney's showing. As mentioned above, either the unit you're using to trade doesn't have sufficient trade power, or it is blocked from DVC. Is it located in Orlando? If so, it's not allowed to see DVC units.

Tell us what your uncle owns and how early he deposited it, and we can offer more informed opinions.

rainy daze says : and Sheraton Vistana Villages is closer to Disney than Vistana Resort and a bit newer.
The Vistana Villages is definitely newer, but not closer to WDW. The main Sheraton Vistana is closer to WDW (it's right on SR 535 about 3 traffic lights down from the entrance to DD/Marketplace). I can get to Epcot in about 7 minutes from the main Vistana. The main Vistana is one of the closest timeshare resorts to WDW. From certain buildings, I've been able to see Planet Hollywood and other DD buildings from my balcony.
I'm an owner there if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

We too, are staying at a non Disney Resort (for the first time!) in December, and we are staying at Marriott's Grande Vista - I have looked online and it looks beautiful, but I am still a litle disappointed that we are not staying on site :sad1: . Our timeshare is through Interval, and you can stay on site (there are 4 or 5 Disney hotels which are part of it), but you must make your reservations at least a year and a half out to be able to get a spot..

He owns a 2 bedroom in Ft. Lauderdale. Not a ritzy place from how he describes it...I can't remember the name of it, but I don't think it's a "resort" type place. It's a week in March (some famous car drag race in the area I believe - he's a racing fan).

I had 20 places pop up for "anytime between now and Sept 2009, because I was curious to see what would show up. Then I chose any available dates for any of the DVC's and got "no matches" type of a comment.

I don't know what you mean by the deposit question. I have never dealt with this stuff before and he is not readily available to answer questions about it. In fact, he's never attempted trading before because he's always used his home resort, so he doesn't know much about it either!

Thanks for the help - I obviously need it. ;)

He owns a place called "Surfsider" and the comment I get for the DVC's is:

At the moment there are no matches for the destinations and dates you selected.

So...does that mean no trading power?

I mis-typed before, When I search all available for the next two years in Orlando - I get 53 matches...but no Disney sites. How can that be?:confused3

I just did a search with a pretty decent week, and saw a couple of Disney weeks showing up over the next 8-9 months, and at least one week in September---which is short-term, when trade power plays less of a role.

I suspect a resort quality issue. Do you see any Marriotts?

YES - I do see many Marriott's. Actually out of the 58 Orlando resorts...I see 53 of them. There are 5 Disney resorts...and that's what I don't get to see! Anyone understand this?

Not me, I'm out of ideas. Provided you have the owners II number, and home address and phone number, you could call and ask the guide to look for you.

In any event, if you have more than two people, and have even modest limits on your dates, you might find that some of the offsite timeshares are better fits for your family. 2BR DVC deposits are rare, especially in all but the lowst demand times. But, they are much more plentiful offsite, and the Marriott resorts are every bit as nice and arguably nicer.

At the end of the day, if your unit can't pull the Disney resorts, then it doesn't matter why. I know you want an explanation, but often in the exchange game, such explanations just can't be had.

Sounds like your uncle's resort doesn't have enough trade power/resort quality to pull DVC (as there are some online right now if you have a high quality timeshare to trade). If you can pull Marriott, I'd grab one of those.

We are staying at Marriott Grande Vista in October and can't wait. The units are huge and really nice. We have exchange through II many times to stay in Orlando and Grande Vista looks like it will be the nicest place we have stayed, by far!
