Which beach?

We will be in Orlando from Sept 10-18. I was dead set on Cocoa Beach on the 16th because there was supposed to be a shuttle launch and I was hoping to see it from there. They have changed the launch to November, so I'm wondering if we should still go there. We are just wanting to mainly play in the sand and maybe wade a bit. Not so much into actually swimming (especially after my husband watching Shark Week ;) ) I'm sure the kids will want to find a few shells, but really just want to relax for a day.

Any suggestions?

I've never been to Cocoa Beach but it looks like it's the closest to Orlando. If you don't care about the drive, I grew up in Clearwater and LOVE Clearwater Beach. It's on the gulf coast near St. Pete/Tampa. We have also stayed at Disney's Vero Beach resort and that beach was very un-crowded and relaxing.
