Cocoa Beach in Cape Canaveral is only an hour away from Orlando and has the Space Center to visit while Siesta Key in Sarasota is 2.15 hours away.

Which would be a better choice for our pre-Disney vacation? We will likely be staying at one of these locations for 3 nights and then going to WDW for 4 nights. BTW – the cast this is my mom, son (12), and myself.

Also if one is better than the other do you know of a nice resort in the area? I would love one that has a private beach.

Also I would like to do some snorkling while there in a safe location. Is one of these better than the other for that?

Is there another area I should consider instead????

Thanks you!

siesta key is the prettiest beach in florida! Ive found coral there, and they have the most beautiful sunsets! I have pictures to prove it! it is very quiant and quiet. gl in whatever u decide!

Clearwater Beach is really nice. The water is nice and blue. A great town. Try to get a hotel near Pier 60. It's a nice place, has a huge playground, picnic areas....and every night they have something called Sunsets at Pier 60 where there is face painting, street performers, and artisans that come out there. It's neat.

We have stayed at a resort on Daytona Beach that's really awesome. It's called the Ocean Walk Resort. It is super nice.

SK is the best beach on the Gulf side. Cocoa is overtalked and overrated due to it's proximity to Orlando. there's really no good snorkeling until you reach the Keys on the Atlantic side. SK has Point 'O Rocks with nice marine life and the Gulf water is much calmer to snorkel in.

SK's not really a resort area, it's more rentals with beach access. Sarasota, St. Pete, and Clearwater are a better choice for resorts.

Have to agree with all the above post. West (gulf) coast beaches are so much nicer imho than the east coast and the sunsets are absolutely beautiful to watch on the beach

One thing to think about is whether you want waves or not. My son loves to boogie board and body surf so we chose Cocoa Beach because it has bigger waves. We did it as a day trip from Disney and had so much fun we went back two days later. Because of that I can't comment on the resorts.

Daytona is also an hour away..... I love it there myself...

Of what you have I have only been to Cocoa and not for a long time... but it was really fun.

I also have been thinking about hitting the beach. Which beach do you suggeston the way in to fl from Ga?

What about St.Petersburg beach..beautiful!!!!! We have stayed at the Tradewinds resort many times!!!

We have stayed in Cape Canveral at a condo on the beach and it was gorgeous! We spent an entire week there about 6 years ago. I am trying to remember where we stayed but I am sure there are lots of them. I'll bet if you Google "Space Coast" or something like that you will find a whole list of accomadations. We drove into Cocoa for dinner once or twice, but mosty grilled hot dogs etc. It was beautiful and quiet and the beach was out the back door. We could also watch the ships going in and out of Port Canveral.

The Space Center is a must see if you have the time.

I had posted on a different thread about Cocoa Beach. We always spend a day there (no overnight though, so I have no idea about the resorts). Last year we went to Cape Canaveral in the am. Took our 4 yr DS and 2 yr old DD. Both of them found things that they liked at CC. They were bored doing some things but like I said, did have some fun there. Anyways, then we spent the rest of the day at Cocoa. always have lots of fun there. :teeth:
