You know and I know that flip flops will be killing her feet after a couple of days walking around Disney. I prefer either hiking boots or long distance running shoes. But then again, she has a lot younger feet and legs than we do. You may want to suggest that she bring along a pair of good walking shoes, just in case. If you can't sell that idea, be ready to buy a pair of sneakers. Does anybody know where to buy shoes at Disney?

For dining at Disney World, who cares? For dining on the cruise, she will probably be eating in the teen club. Who cares?

Pick your battles.

My DD who was 5 last year loved wearing her flip flops and they were very comfortable until we went to get on the monorail to head to Epcot and one of her flip flops fell in between the monorail and the platform. That was the end of her beloved flip flops. We could not find any normal shoes at Epcot and I would not buy her the plastic kind so we bought her a pair of socks until we could get back to the hotel and get her extra pair of shoes. Good Luck.

If your DD is absolutely stubbourn in wanting sandals, try suggesting Teevas or Merrels or something similar (i.e. with straps). I have a pair where the back strap comes off, so I can bring the straps if my feet start to get sore, but I also have a heck of a lot more support and comfort that flip flops.

My rule of thumb: flip flops for pool, and small distances. Definitely not WDW (the parks are a LOT bigger than you might expect... her feel will be very sore and the end of the day!)

Hope this helps

We got a pair of Birkenstock sandals for our DS6. He got used to them fairly quick and these seem to provide much better support and tend to be made better than flip flops. - Mike

I say stick a pair of sneakers in the luggage, let her pack what she wants. When I was young I could wear flip flops or sandals and walk miles. If she doesn't need the sneakers, you saved yourself an argument. If her feet hurt, you can do the mom thing and save the day. Either way, I agree with the 'pick your battles' suggestions. In this day and age, power struggles over what shoes to wear with your teenager seems like small potatoes, so your probably doing just fine.

Have fun!!!
