This is a follow up question to the baby sling/carrier question. I have the hip hammock but it hurts my neck (I suspect bc I am only 5 2") Do u recommend a sling or backpack for a petite mom. I have heard good things about the Ergo carrier. Pls give me your opinion.

Thanks

Lots of excellent reviews. Check internet for reviews - almost all are positive. I just ordered mine for my 2yo ds for our trip in january!

For long term use. . .I just don't think you can beat a good backpack. I used a Bjorn when mine were very small - but it's too hard to carry much weight on your front. Just MHO. . . :flower: :flower:

The Baby Bjorn is the best you will find. We used ours for our son at WDW when he was 11 mos and then again when he was 20 mos old. The straps are wide enough to be confortable with a heavier child. Its much more convenient to have a child up front. You would have to take a back pack off on rides and maybe in shows, but up front the baby can ride and watch without moving.

I think I replied to you on the other page, but I am also your size. I have the bjorn (and a 20lb baby), and it works great, but it hurts my shoulder. My no-sew wrap I made (AKA, cut 4 yards of linen in half longwise) better distributes her weight, although my husband calls me a hippie.

I got the directions for the wrap from www.mamatoto.org.

If you plan on using a bjorn, I'd recommend asking around for one you can borrow, but if you have to buy, get one of the higher end ones. If your spending that much money, you might as well spend a little extra for the added back support. The Active ones are about $110. The regular ones a little less ($80 I think).

The reviews on the internet I talk about refer to buyers of ergo who have also owned the Bjorns, all have said that the ergo carrier is much better and can go from newborn up to 60 lbs, where the regular bjorn goes up to 22 lbs and the active up to 26 lbs (I've owned both the bjorn carriers).

The ergo carrier is front carry as well as back and can do a hip carry.

2nd hand bjorns are fairly inexpensive on ebay, ergo carriers are more expensive, check their website, they have some new carriers discounted for a great price!
