Hello Disneyland experts-

This will be our first time going to either Disneyland or DCA, and would like to know which attractions to skip if you have vertigo.

Anything with a sudden jolt/shake or spin is basically what we're talking about.

Thanks for your help!

A couple you should avoid are things like the Roller Coasters (especially California Screaming which goes upside down) and Roger Rabbit Toontown spin (Spins a lot). Those are the obvious attractions I would avoid with Vertigo.

Off the top my head to avoid :

DCA:
Screamin' over California ( it takes off suddenly)
Mater's tow spin
Toy Story ( cars spin around often)
Grizzly River Rapids ( boat spins alot typically)
Goofy's Fly School ( this whips you around pretty good)

Disneyland:

Star Tours - Simulator ride/many people get motion sick
Space Mountain - Roller coaster type ride - can have sudden jerky stops
Roger Rabbit Toon Spin

That's all I can think of right now..

DL: Space Mountain
Star Tours
Teacups
Roger Rabbit

DCA: Ladybug Boogie
Tow-mater's
Soar in'
Swings
Flick's Flyers

My boys have Autism and LOVE the spinning rides, lol! :dance3:

Midnightred

I would think Tower of Terror would be one to avoid as well. I get mild vertigo just from riding in regular elevators. I don't have a problem with ToT per se, but it's more of a cumulative thing for me. Combining a lot of rides with spinning and jolting, even if it isn't a lot, will give me a very spacey feeling and mild bouts of dizziness.

ETA: I'm like Midnightred's boys, though...I enjoy it LOL! My kids like me to go on the teacups with them because I can really crank that wheel. DH stands outside and turns green just watching. I just get this weird feeling afterward, like I'll turn my head and everything goes a little topsy turvy. Fortunately, I don't get nausea like dh!

Sliding cars on Mickeys Wheel of Death.. My friend cant do those.. but is ok with the standard cars.

I also suffer from vertigo but have noticed if I stay continually medicated with my meclizine, I do fine. But there are certain rides that I avoid altogether.
In DL:
Tea cups
Dumbo
Roger Rabbit
Star Tours
Astro Orbitor
Carousel

Space Mtn does make me feel funny afterwards but I make sure that I ride that a couple hours after I took my pill to make sure it's in my system good (not near the end of the 6 hr window when it's time to take another). Buzz can do it too but I love that ride so much, I will find a way to always ride it!

Also found that Capt EO bothered me too! The seats give you that interactive feel and bounce you around. (and that is also why i dont do Star Tours anymore) It also made me realize that it had been 7 hrs since I had last taken my pill so that didn't help either!

In DCA:
Golden Zephyr
Silly Symphony Swings
Mickeys Fun Wheel
Carousel

Sometimes Soarin can bother me, especially the LA night scene. I always close my eyes during that part. And I find that if I look to the side to see the edge of the screen, that helps.

Screamin I think scared me more than bothered me. But going upside down doesn't help!! Tower of Terror doesn't seem to bother me either.
Toy Story can bother me with the way the cars swing around plus wearing the 3D glasses. But that's another ride I love & refuse to give up! lol

All the shows/rides with 3D glasses can bother me but I push through it. Hopefully you can take some meds that help you to enjoy your trip! Good luck!:)

I love my rollercoasters and crazy rides, but if you spin me I'll be thrown off all day. So I avoid tea cups and roger rabbit. I also found that star tours does me in.

I always get the weirdest sensation after that last part!! I don't even know how to describe it. It's just the scene you mention, the time-lapse zoom over the freeway to DL.

Toy Story Midway Madness bothers my wife. She does it but we went three times in a row last trip and she skipped the third go around.

There are a bunch mentioned that she can handle once, like Maters & Dumbo.

She also isn't a huge fan of Mr Toads.

Two trips ago we all queued up for Soarin. She walked in, saw what it was all about, and walked right out the exit as we were filing in. :lmao: I think she would be fine but she's not willing to risk it.

YES! I get queasy at that same scene in Soarin'. And I also take meclizine for a day in Disneyland. I think it is similar to car sickness or sea sickness. Your eyes are moving around looking at a lot in that scene, lights, etc. and I'll bet that's what disorients you.
I do avoid Teacups, Astro Orbiters, Carousels, Goofy's Sky School (even with meclizine). I just don't care for the spinning. Mater's is ok....just whips you around and Star Tours does not bother me. If only a few parts bother you there, just close your eyes for them.
Grizzly Rapids' rafts do spin but your focus tends to be on the WATER, so that does not bother me either.....Dumbo is ok, too....maybe because it is Dumbo! haha
If you are having trouble, bring along some ginger candy (chews) and when you start to feel weird, chew on one. works great!

Lol, me too. I can handle the biggest baddest roller coasters in the world, but you won't find me on those dreaded tea cups!

I have a problem with motion sickness..... (Which is a horrible thing to have at Disneyland, cause all you wanna do is ride the rides) I took motion sickness pills and was okay for almost all the rides.... The only one I had a BIG problem with was Star Tours, I had to close my eyes half way through or I was gonna puke. I even rode the tea-cups without problem, I just didn't spin the cups... I know that's the purpose of the ride, but I HAD to ride it, it's a classic!!!! I also had no problems with California Screaming or Space Mountain.... I even rode Space Mountain after eating Monte Cristo's and thought I would end up puking. What makes Space Mountain so nice is that it's pitch black and you can't see the twists and turns. I never got the chance to ride Soaring over California, after reading some of the replies I'm glad I didn't...

Oh my goodness, do not ride the swings at DCA. I can ride Screaming, Matterhorn, even Dumbo, but those swings............

... tea Cups for certain.

Space mountain is a definate no for my dad, but he can manage Star Tours, just closes his eyes if he starts feeling badly.

My son really , really suffers on Indiana jones and Tower of Terror but does just fine on Grizzly and screamin' his favourites. Neither my son or my dad can manage Matterhorn, yet my daughter who also gets ill does just fine does fine on all but the Tea Cups. We have found that there is way more to do in Disney in than the local Fair. Fair is largely spinny rides. There is very little they can manage there, but largely at Disney they are just fine.

It seems so individual, everyone reacts differently, the only commonality I have seen is the Tea Cups.

Big motion sickness girl here -- all the ones previously mentioned, teacups, star tours, etc. I've always avoided those obvious ones. But what did me in, which I didn't expect, was Matterhorn. I think what made me the most mad, was people in line, said "oh no, you'll be fine, no big deal"! Well, it ruined my whole morning! :crazy2:

I have a massive problem with anything to do with 3D although Star Tours gets me the most (which is awful as I am a serious SW fan). I think part of my problem has to do with my eyesight and the fact that my right eye has an astigmatism. I end up with a serious headache after anything 3D, some balance issues, and just a general feeling of non-wellness.
