Which airport would you suggest flying into if sailing out of NYC terminal? We flew into Newark last year but we booked at the last minute and picked flights quickly. Wondering if there are pros to either of the other airports over Newark. Thanks!

My preference order is...

JFK
EWR
train to Philly and fly from there
train to Baltimore/DC or Boston and fly from there

And then if there are absolutely no other alternatives LGA. ESPECIALLY now with the construction going on. IF you insist on LGA, I would not schedule a flight out before evening as the traffic situations have been horrendous - even at 2am on a weekend - and people have more than a few times ben ditching their cabs/car services and walking upwards of a mile with luggage just to make flights.

Thank you so much for responding! I had no idea about LGA. I looked on the map and it appeared to be the closest so I probably would have picked that first, otherwise. That's very helpful to know. Thank you!!!!

You're welcome! Even before the construction it was not my favorite, but it's gotten so much worse.

Another option (especially if flying southwest) is to fly into Islip MacArthur airport on Long Island and take the train into the city.

I agree with avoiding Laguardia, though.

There's one out there? Really?

I honestly don't even think about Long Island as existing. LOL. Of course I avoid Southwest like the plague after two horrid experiences with them in a row, so that's probably why I never knew about that one.

Hey! I'm on Long Island lol

JFK is the best bet. Agree about avoiding LGA. Big upgrades coming, supposedly. As a cynical New Yorker, I will believe it when I see it.

ESPECIALLY knowing that the company hired at least for the AirTrain is the same one in charge of the 2nd Ave subway expansion that has what only 4 stops open many years overdue??

I believe it's easier to get from Newark than an other airport. Drive time should be about 35-50 minutes depending on traffic. But you can take the train right from the airport to Penn Station NYC, about 45 minutes.

JFK is about 50-60 away due to traffic. Good luc.
