Whew! What a week! Selling a house is hard!

I went to Topeka last weekend to visit my daughter and do some wedding planning. 9 hour drive each way. Got home mid-afternoon Monday and worked on my house until about 11:00. We are putting our house on the market, and were due to have the Realtor open house/walk through on Wednesday. Tuesday after work, I cleaned the guest room and laundry room (moving the washer and dryer to clean underneath). My brother was in Denver for work, rented a car, and came up for the evening. We took him to Chipotle for dinner (putting a load of towels in before departing). Came home an hour later to discover I had dislodged the drain hose on the washer and it dispensed the whole cycle of water on my laundry room floor. Flooded the great room carpet, downstairs bedroom and hall and the furnace. Took us till midnight to clean it up and get the furnace working again. Needless to say, no open house the next day. I am having all the bedroom carpets cleaned today (5) and the hall and a small living area, so last night I vacuumed throroughly, and got down all cobwebs/cleaned the celing fans, etc. Our Realtor put the sign in the yard this morning, and we already have a showing tomorrow. So, tonight we have to put all the furniture back, make sure the house is sparkly clean and vacate the premises by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

I am sooo tired. I had no idea it was so much work to sell a house. I just hope it sells quickly. Then we pack up, move to an apartment until some time in June, and then move into the new (much smaller) house out of town.

Glad to hear that the sales process is now in full swing. Last year I threw a load into the washer and had a huge flood ... luckily the door contained most of it in the linoleum areas ... I bailed out the washer with a pitcher, mopped up, vacuumed, made an appointment w/the carpet cleaner, and went to Target to get a few things ... while I was gone, my roommate came home early, threw a few things into the washer and turned it on! Big Flood #2 in the same day! It was funny.

Where are you and your family moving?

YIKES! I'll bet you almost cried when you came home to all of that water. I <i>would</i> have cried.

we would love to move - but the thought of all the work to get ready and then those lovely realtor calls, "hi, we were just driving by and are now sitting out front - my clients leave town tomorrow - but would love to see your house right now"

The decision to sell was made pretty quickly. We've been considering it for awhile. 2000 sq ft house with a full, finished basement is more than we need, and more than I want to clean. I just can't seem to keep up. It takes me 3-4 hours on Saturday to keep it up, and life's too short for that. We decided one Sunday afternoon to look at new houses out east of town, and found one that's a little smaller, garden level basement (we wouldn't finish it all) and much less expensive. Next thing we know, we've called a friend whose a Realtor for advice, and no have a For Sale sign in my front yard. The new house is in an area that's really growing right now, so, when we decide to sell and move out of the area (about 6-7 years), we should be able to re-sell pretty easily.

danacara: I would have cried if it'd happened twice in one day. There's only so much one can take.

The good news is that most of the work is done now, it's just a matter of keeping it clean. No problem for Stephen and I, but Kimmi will struggle with that. She's just not a person who easily keeps a clean room.

Good luck with your sale. We're still in our first home and I dread the thought of ever having to get it ready to sell. Perhaps I'll just push that problem off onto my children (assuming that I want to retire in NE Ohio).

Hey. I just had a thought. Perhaps I should contact my cousin and see if she has an apartment available for you guys (since she lives in the same town as you). Stranger things could happen.

TC, is she an apartment manager? That would be great. We'd have to be able to rent month-to-month instead of signing a lease. Any help would be so appreciated.

I haven't talked to her in years, but I can try giving her a call. Her parents built and owned a 12 unit apartment building in Longmont and I assume that she still owns it. Don't know how much clout I have with her (since she's never returned any emails from me), but maybe my parents can contact her. That's the least I can do for a DIS buddy and fellow DVCer.

I talked to my folks this weekend and they haven't heard from my cousin in Longmont for a couple of years.

The keep sending her letters, but they don't get any responses. I sent an email to the last address that I had for her, but it bounced. I'll get her address from my folks and write her a letter sometime this week. Don't sell your house too quickly.
