Where's the liberal outrage?

Do you really think these are equivalent? Why are the right wingers so phobic about having a muslim in Congress? The term Islamophobic has been applied to the comments of both Dennis Prager, Virgil Goode and Glan Beck concerning Rep. Keith Ellison.

For what it's worth, I am not phobic at all about having a muslim in Congress. As a matter of fact, I'd much rather have religious-minded people serving us than not. To me, it matters not whether a person is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, whatever - so long as they are not fanatical (eg. kill/enslave all non-whatevers). If they are religious, most likely, they're answering to a higher power than the constitution, and most "normal" religious preach peace, tolerance, and positive deeds.

And, I appaud Rep-Elect Ellison for promoting peace and tolerance in Islam. I hope more Muslims stand up and speak out publicly for taking back Islam from the minority, but very dangerous Islamo-facists.

Baloney! Insert God (or worse Jesus) & Christian & you libs would be foaming at the mouth!
GWB has been open about his religious faith from day 1. He has probably mentioned God and Jesus thousands of times in public speeches since being elected president. I can't recall a single foaming at the mouth post from any liberals complaining about Bush expressing how important his faith is to him.

I wish I could answer this.
And these smilies aren't workin'
either so I can't even post one of those!

Good for you, but as an American, I'd like to
have someone who represents the Bill of Rights
and Constitution for ALL of us.

So was Clinton, but it didn't seem to get people up in arms and worried in the same way.

You must have been asleep then. "Foaming" is quite subjective.

Well, heck, show me. I know the search enginge is quite wonky on this site. But considering that GWB mentions his faith every single day, it shouldn't be too hard for you could find a few posts with people getting upset about him expressing how important his faith is to him.

That is, if you guys are right and librals get upset anytime he mentions how important his faith is to him.

Really. You took a quote out of context to start this thread.

You may not be Islamophobic but a number of your fellow conservatives clearly are. You have Glen Beck, Dennis Prager and Virgil Goode all making stupid comments about Rep. Ellison. Take these incidents together with things like the over reaction on the US Airlines flight and you can see clear examples of Islamophobia.

BTW, Islamo-facist is a stupid term. Thangk G-d the main idiot who used that term was defeated this year.

Maybe because Clinton didn't want to change the Constitution or ignore The Supreme Court to conform with his religious views.

When Reagen and Bush1 talked about their religious beliefs the left didn't
"foam" or get up in arms. Nor when Jimmy Carter or Clinton talked about theirs. Nor Nixon, nor Johnson, and especially not Kennedy. Nor does anyone "foam" or get up in arms about Bush2's beliefs, people have the right to believe anything they want to believe.

The left only gets up in arms about Bush2 when he advocates policy based on his beliefs as opposed to the US Constitution. It's not about Christianity, or Bush2 being a Christian, it's about Bush2 and HIS policy of pushing those beliefs beyond his own self.

Faith-Based Initiatives.

Boy, that ought to drive ol' Goode right out of his mind when Muslims receive goverment funding. :lmao: Or should that just be Christian-Based Initiatives?

You have to admire Rep. Ellison. Here is his response to Goode's islamophobic letter. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7005940479
Washington D.C. (AHN) - Keith Ellison, the incoming Congressman from Minnesota and the first Muslim to be elected to Congress on Thursday said he looks forward to meeting the Virginia Republican who had expressed his concerns over the use of the Quran for Keith's swearing-in ceremony.

Democratic Rep.-elect Ellison cited probable ignorance about Islam as the reason for Rep. Virgil Goode's remarks.

In an interview with CNN, Ellison said that he is not angry about the so-called "Islamophobic" letter that Goode, R-Va., wrote to his constituents, but he firmly believes that Goode "has a lot to learn about Islam."

"I don't know the fellow and I'd rather just say he has a lot to learn about Islam," Ellison told CNN.

you: "where's the liberal outrage?"

me after reading your post: "get your head out of your *** and think before you speak"

Baloney! Insert God (or worse Jesus) & Christian & you libs would be foaming at the mouth!

Because it wouldn't be politically correct. It is only politically correct to bash Christianity.

Most of my views are VERY liberal, I'm a Christian, and I couldn't give a hoot about being politically correct, whatever the heck THAT means. I don't care if our elected officials believe in the Bible, the Quaran, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, or the Gospel According to Peanuts as long as they uphold the Constitution of the United States.

.

I listen to Glenn Beck regularly and don't recall him saying any such things. If you could, please provide a link to some quotes he made about Rep. Ellison. Since you made the claim, and you're really good at linking to other peoples quotes, you need to back up that claim. Thank you.

A "phobia" is an irrational fear of something. I don't think it's irrational to fear some people in a specific religious group that mean to do us (you too) harm. To fear everyone would be irrational, but I don't see that happening.

Other the those 6 Imams, has USAir kicked any other Muslims off their planes?

I am of the opinion that those 6 Imams pulled this as a stunt. To what end, I'm not sure. Maybe to test the reaction of the system, public and the airlines. Maybe to make a political statement. There is just something about the event that leaves me wondering.

I have to believe that the OP is really an undercover liberal trying to make the right look bad, because to cut a snippet out of context like is a sloppy tactic and easily found out.

But you wouldn't have a problem if they let those religious beliefs influence their decision making (as long as it's legal)?

I'm really tired of these so called religious people invading countries, killing, etc. Let's give an atheist a shot.

Just checking in - did you find any of that liberal outrage at Bush expressing how important his faith is to him that you think is so endemic???
