I have an extremely finicky 6 year old, who's favorite thing to eat is grilled cheese... it's one of few foods he'll actually eat. We're trying to find a table service WDW restaurant that has grilled cheese on the kids menu but it's not been an easy search. It seems odd that a kid friendly place like WDW would not have grilled cheese as a standard offering on kids menus. We eat out a lot and never have a problem finding a restaurant that has grilled cheese. This is a kids staple! Am I missing something here?

This is what I have found...hope it helps!!

The Plaza (MK)
Brown Derby (DHS)
Big river Grille and Brewing Works (Boardwalk)
Maya Grill (Coronado Springs)
Rainforest Cafe

It's not Table Service but might be worth keeping in mind:
Earl of Sandwich

Grilled cheese is my son's favorite thing to order at a restaurant, too :)
The Plaza has grilled cheese on their children's menu & so does the food court at All Star Movies.

If the restaurant has a kids cheeseburger, ask for it on sliced bread rather than a bun, and ask them to hold the beef and the condiments. Voila! Grilled cheese.

If you go to the dark blue bar near the top of this page you'll see "Dining" listed. Click on that and it will take you to a page where you can search for any menu item and it will show you which restaurants have it. :disrocks:

Perhaps we need to start expanding our kids' palates. Most of the things I see on here about "picky" eaters makes me wonder how healthy these kids are. It seems like they eat no vegetables and only fried foods. :confused3

One of the former Top Chef contestants was asked once what her young daughter eats and she said "whatever I make." She also stated that kids' menus were the worst thing to happen in restaurants.

Alot of items aren't listed on menus. Kona for one has grilled cheese, chicken nuggets and peanut butter and jelly, as well as Mickey waffles

My 3 year old DD eats whatever I make, I am not a short order cook. She LOVES all sorts of foods, her current favorites are asparagus with lemon butter sauce and olive tapenade on pita bread. This being said, at Disney, with their current children's menu offerings, it is very hard to get a kid who has a more "developed" palate anything to eat. We will be on the dining plan, and my DD will have to order from the kids menu. She will choose almost anything besides pizza, chicken nuggets, the so-called "normal" kids foods. We are almost forced to eat at buffets so she'll get what she likes. I hate kids menus!!!

I hear ya! When my DD was small she would eat raw potatoes, raw mushrooms and pretty much any other vegetable. She is still the same way in her 20s. Her twin brother was a little more cautious when it came to vegetables, but once I found something he enjoyed, like green beans and broccoli, I made them often. He also tried everything I made.

I always felt the solution would be to offer children's sized portions of the adult menus.

my kids eat lots of different foods , but also love a good grilled cheese! We have found that the Plaza has a great kids grilled cheese :lovestruc I may have the only kids that won't touch Mac n cheese, but everyone and every child is different ;) and that is OK:thumbsup2 Even my husband who eats anything and everything asked the other day if we were going to eat at EOS this trip, I asked why and he said " I am dying for their Kids Peanut butter and jelly!" :lmao:

DD #1 is 8 and has never liked grilled cheese. She tried the one at EoS on our last visit to Disney because I told her no pizza or PB&J...she had to do something different. And so ended up LOVING it. So much that the kids made me go back for dinner at EoS a second time that trip, so they could have it again (#2 adores grilled cheese, so no problems there).

I like that it's not fried in a pan in a ton of butter. It's a whole wheat roll, run through a toaster to melt the cheese. Not health food by any means, but better than a "traditional" sandwich IMO. Plus any time one of my kids tries a new food, even one slightly less healthy, I try to support that because their palates are still a little limited.

I agree with you to a degree. I have two children, and their tastes could not be further apart. One will eat pretty much anything we make, the other is extremely conservative. One had severe food allergies from a young age(6 months) and has experienced anaphylaxis on multiple occasions. He complains his mouth hurts with many fresh fruits and veggies....his brother is the polar opposite. He will eat any fruit, and a decent handful of veggies solo, more if they are diced into foods.

I don't know why they are so different aside from the severe adverse reaction from many foods(wheat, soy, dairy, and eggs at one point or another/or some together) that one had, but not the other. Sometimes, it really is not as simple as it appears.

Shelley888 I agree with you 100%!!!!!!! Having 1 child that is mostly neurotypical and another who has Autism....we know that one size does not fit all kids or families.:thumbsup2 OP just asked where is the grilled cheese. I think RFC also serves one.

It may not be on the menu, but I'm sure many places would make you one if you asked. Especially if there is some sort a sandwich on the menu, then all they'd have to do is eliminate most of the ingredients, and throw it on the grill.

Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club has an awesome grilled cheese, however.

I have an extremely picky eater as well, and so I was wondering the same thing. I think I may end up asking the server if they can make a grilled cheese, if there is nothing on the menu the children will eat.

As for those who can get their kids to eat everything, good for you. Doesn't work that way with a lot of children, though. I suppose I am forgiving because I ate nothing but hot dogs and ice cream for most of my childhood, and now I am a perfectly healthy, slim person who has very adventurous tastes. :)

Captain Cook's at the Poly offers grilled cheese on both the adult and children's menu.

:confused3 Why do questions like this always end up veering off down this path of discussion? Yes, kids should eat a balanced diet and not focus on one beloved food. But the reality is that vacation is not the place to address that and to be honest, you have no idea why the child loves grilled cheese (there could be allergy, texture, medical issues at play).

Anyway, OP, I remember seeing grilled cheese on the menu at Brown Derby, Flying Fish and Maya Grill. Also, do not be afraid to ask if it is not on the menu. Citrico's made DS a grilled cheese because I asked if it was possible. Our server told us that if the chefs have access to the ingredients, they will usually do their best to accommodate requests like this.

Not every kid is like the chef's kid. If she had more than one kid, she might see that it's not her philosophy, but the actual kid itself. I ate everything b/c I didn't want to cause a fuss. I am allergic to ALL SORTS of things, environmentally, and food-wise. As a teen I had to start cutting down on the things I ate, and it culminated with being vegetarian by the time I was 20, and I'm feeling that dairy and wheat aren't really good for me now, which is going to really be awful, but...that's the price I paid for not listening to my body as a child.

I have 4 younger siblings. They *tormented* me at dinnertime (thankfully the youngest 3 lived with dad and stepmom so I only dealt with this every other weekend) with their adamant REFUSALS to eat anything that didn't suit them. The 3 brothers would literally sit at the table for HOURS rather than just choke down their food. By the time my sister arrived (when I was 25) her two full brothers were old enough that their parents saw they didn't have rickets and had started to expand their palates, and they just went with it.

The siblings do not have ANY food allergies, or allergies at all.

So which kid did it the wrong way?

Anyway, DS likes grilled cheese while out and about b/c we're vegetarian, and many menu items are inappropriate for that diet. And the kid HATES veggie burgers, which is what DH and I are often left with, especially at WDW where they are taking away all the interesting menu items and leaving us with nothing but grilled cheese and veggie burgers....

I got one at Beaches and Cream last year although it wasn't on the menu. I told the server I wanted something small for dinner since I wanted a sundae for dessert (and I was solo-no one to share with). He suggested a plain grilled cheese, no sides.

Even if they are not on the menu most places will make them. My son was able to get one at Beaches and Cream and Sci-Fi just by asking.
The best one of the trip was at the Brown Derby. They made it double decker and included diced bacon. He was very happy that night. :)
