If a grilled cheese isn't on the menu just ask, 99% of the time you can get one for him no problem!
Same goes for your daughter - if there is something on the adult menu she wants ask if you can get a kids portion.
I do miss the days when esp at Epcot most restaruants offered at least one choice of kids meals that was a version of specialty foods offered there!
My kids rarely ate from the kids menu but would often choose a soup or salad instead and I would somtimes give them my appetizer (when they were included in the DP).
That said - I wish there were a bit more variety in kids menus but the restaurants offer what the kids order !
My 3 year old DD eats whatever I make, I am not a short order cook. She LOVES all sorts of foods, her current favorites are asparagus with lemon butter sauce and olive tapenade on pita bread. This being said, at Disney, with their current children's menu offerings, it is very hard to get a kid who has a more "developed" palate anything to eat. We will be on the dining plan, and my DD will have to order from the kids menu. She will choose almost anything besides pizza, chicken nuggets, the so-called "normal" kids foods. We are almost forced to eat at buffets so she'll get what she likes. I hate kids menus!!!
