Where would you stop?

We are going to be driving from NY to HHI in August and want to spread the drive out atleast 1 maybe 2 days. I figured maybe we could do some sightseeing along the way. Has anyone ever made this drive? Where would you recommend stopping? I want to be to HHI by none on our arrival day.

We always drive both to Disney and to Myrtle Beach. We are from Pa. We usually try to get there quicker and take our time coming home (we don't want the vacation to end).
Williamsburg, Va is a nice area, shopping and some plantations along the way,and alot of history, but it is a little out of the way. Also Washington DC has plenty of options, but is also busy.

Myrtle Beach is nice and alot to do. We have stayed at Myrtle for a few days before Disney and then drove along Rt. 17 through Murrell's Inlet and into Charleston SC, which is very nice.

Williamsburg is about halfway for you and there is plenty to do there. It is not really that far out of the way. It's about 30-45 minutes from I-95. If you really want a scenic trip, you could go down the Eastern Shore of Maryland and drive across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel.

When I was young we would drive to WDW. We stopped in DC, Williamsburg, and Myrtle Beach. We also usually stopped in St. Augustine (but you are going to HHI.) We had a great time. My brother and I were just telling his fiancee on Saturday about those trips! Have fun!

We drove down from CT for the first and second time this past February and April respectively. We stopped in DC on the way home so DS 7 could see some of the places he was learning about in school. It had been along time since DW and I had been there too so it was a good place to stop. DS 3 was more or less along for the ride, but at least he can say he has been there.

We will be driving down again in February so I will be curious to see what others have to say about good places to stop.

Thanks everyone, I was leaning towards Washington DC. I am almost embarassed to say I have never actually done and visiting there myself.

We drove from Boston to Florence SC and stayed at the Hilton. Around 15hours for us (with stops) Plenty of hotels etc around the area. From there to HHI is a quick 3 hour drive, give or take - depending on how fast you drive.
