Need some advice on where to stay. We are planning on the week after memorial day in 2011 for my dd grad gift. There will be 9 of us, 8 will be 18 and over, 1 will be 14 at the time. I am thinking THV, but would love to do Kidani especially having that extra bathroom. Dream would be a OKW GV,the only GV I can afford,ut would have to book 7 mo out since I own at SSR.
Of course if you have any other suggestions I will take them.
Plus can you remind me, is that 9 people total, or can it be 9 people and an infant in a portacrib?

Depends - how does sleeping configuration work for your group at THVs ? : sleeps 2 in master - queen bed, 2 in 2nd brd - queen bed, 2 in 3rd br - bunkbeds, 2 on pull out sofa & 1 on pullout chair in living room; 2 bathrooms only.

jmho, I'd go for extra bathroom that 2 bedroom villas at AKV or BLT offers, but ideally I'd go with a Grand Villa.

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes

Sleeping configuration would be:
DH and I in master
Niece and husband in 2nd with infant (1.5 years) if she isn't considered a "person"
DS and girlfriend in front room
DD and nephew in bunks

2bdrm or grand villa
DH and I in Master
Niece and husband in 2nd bedroom with DD with porta crib
DS and girlfriend in front room/3rd bdrm with nephew

and I agree with the bathroom situation

I think it would be nice to have the space, plus the large deck outside--almost like another room. Giving you or your son/girlfriend a place to go while others are watching tv in the living room. I wouldn't want to chance not getting the GV at OKW. I hear they are popular for the very reason you want to stay there--affordability of the points!

baby will not put you over. idk, but based on what you are saying about your travelling party it'd seem THV would be better situation although things will be extremely tight but at least you gain an extra bedroom which may be the better choice over an extra bathroom; just don't see how 2 bedroom villa could work for all of you together, but that's for you to decide - sleeps 2 in master, 4 in 2nd br, 3 in livingroom at AKV or BLT - - jmho I'd sacrifice extra bathroom to gain 3rd bedroom THV has.

If you can't get Grand Villa at 7 mos then a studio for your neice, hubs & baby and 2 bedroom villa for other 6 in your party.

Only other thing I can think to suggest is rent out your SSR points and get a points transfer from a member who owns OKW so you can take advantage of 11 month owners priority booking window there in order to book Grand Villa. Or get a points transfer from another SSR owner for the additional points you would need to book Grand Villa at SSR at 11 month window.

:)

I would book the THV at 11 months and then try for an OKW GV or 2 BR at AKV (Kidani) at 7 monhts. I have a friend who got an OKW GV at 6 months for a Spring Break week so there is always hope. And I agree with the studio/2 BR combination at OKW. It is less points than a GV and gives you more options than a 2BR at AKV. The 2 BR is large enough to all meet for meals etc. You can figure out who would be best in each unit and ask to have them close together when you make the reservation if you end up doing that. They got us in the same building with the 2 BR on the 2nd floor and the studio below it on the 1st when we did that one year. - My grand plans for a family Christmas week trip have been wiped out after all my planning of how many and what size rooms for 15 people and working with 3 home resorts at 11 months as indicated in my signature. Am still hoping for a THV or AKV for the ones still going but had 3 2 BR units reserved at exactly 11 months. Now have two and have one 2 BR for the 5 adults and 3 children going in Sept/Oct. The more options you leave yourself the better. If there is a chance that any of them might cancel on you the OKW 2BR/studio combo gives you a chance to save some points to add an additional day or for another trip.
Good luck and hope you have a great trip

I would not even consider anything less than a GV. If more of your party were small kids, maybe a 2 bedroom would be doable. Find a way to rent a GV on the rent/trade board. The suggestion to rent out some of your points and use that money to rent an OKW GV from someone is a good option.
I used to be in your position and did an add-on at OKW just for the ability to rent GVs at 11 months. OKW GVs are the best bargain in DVC, IMHO.
God luck!

We're also doing a post graduation trip in 2011 with our son and his friends. So there will be the three of us and five extras. We're getting a two bedroom at OKW because that's the only villa with enough room for grown up sized people who fill the number of sleeping spaces.

The rooms at the THV are so small that they couldn't get king sized beds in them and barely got the queen sized beds in them.

another option is to get a 2 bedroom and a separate studio and put someone in there. I have done this in the past and it has worked out great for less points than a grand villa.

I like the idea of a separate studio. Folks plans change and it is easier to cancel a studio than change a reservation at short notice. For 2010 we are doing 1 2BR and two studios for 4 families.

I was going to recommend the same.

Hey, I just checked my timer and we may beat you by two to five days. So we'll see you there.

Very good point Deb :thumbsup2 - was thinking too that THV bedrooms are

on small side & op said they will need to set up pack n'play in one of those

bedrooms.
