I may take my niece to WDW summer 2003. She has only been once a couple of years ago, but did not stay on property. At first, I thought it would be great to stay at the Grand Floridian- just the 2 girls. But, I may not be able to afford it. If my sister okays me to take her, I am covering all expenses.

So, where would you think a 14 years old girl would like to stay and why?

What about the Contemporary?

Of course, it would be REALLY cool if my sister calls me- says okay- and I can take her late December/early January. But, that means no swimming. But, better rates after 01/01/03

I would take her to the Beach Club if you can swing it! My kids are teens boys (14,16) and my sister has two teen girls (15,16) so I can honestly say I think BC would be very nice for her. Does she like the beach?? Her likes and dislikes may help you make a choice. There is Stormalong Bay which is the biggest pool at any resort there, the Boardwalk is in walking distance which has lots to do, and Ecpot is in your back yard. Have a great time no matter where you stay! After all it's Disney......

when I went with my sister last year we were upgraded to the contemp and she loved it (she was 14 at the time)

Any of the 3 monorail hotels (Poly, GF or Contem.) would be nice because of the ease of returning to your room for a nap or a swim from MK or Epcot. If Epcot or MGM are your main destination, Beach Club, Yacht Club or Boardwalk or even Swan or Dolphin are walking or boat accessable. If you want a really cool adventure, AKL would be so memorable. Busses are the only transport to anyplace from AKL. I say DELUXE all the way if you can swing it. :smooth:
I just stayed at the AKL in August with my 13 yr. old niece, she loved it! It's so mysterious but cozy! Enjoy;)

I am leaning towards a Delux, but if I can't then what moderate would you choose

I would ask her what type of resort she would enjoy. If she like Gone With The Wind she may like the POR Mansions the pool is nice there and the game room and the food court are good.
If she prefers the islands than maybe you should try the CBR. I think that if you ask for her input you may get a better idea of what she likes and it will make planning easier. Some kids are just happy to be going to DW so it may not matter to her at all. If you can swing it I would maybe take her for a manicure or facial. They have some priced for teens. They are still expensive but it may be a fun thing to do. My DD wouldn't want to waste time in DW doing that but that is just her. She may want to do alot of rides rather than bother with a spa treat.

If she loves tea parties and frilly things, the GF might be a good choice. If she loves the beach or the islands, Poly would be good for a monorail resort, or the YC/BC for an Epcot resort. My 13 year old isn't much of a girly girl, she would have hated the GF, but she loved the CR with its easy access to MK and the ARCADE! She also would have loved to stay at the BC, with access to Stormalong Bay - she loved Typhoon Lagoon, and boat access to MGM - she's addicted to RnRC and TOT.

All that said, we are going back in December, the kids don't know, but when we talked about someday going back, she said she would really love to stay at AKL - she thought the hotel looked totally awesome, and they have so many activities available. So, DH and I have booked our first split trip - 3 days at the Contemporary (for MVMCP) followed by 3 days at AKL. She is going to love the night vision tour - they offer it every night at 10:15.

You know your niece best, kids are all so different - just choose whichever one matches her personality - and absolutely look for codes - Mousesavers rocks!

I would also consider what you will enjoy doing with her. As a parent of an only child, I know stormalong bay might not be too much fun for her unless you would enjoy doing this activity with her. We plan to do The BC trip after next when we let our DS bring a friend. I would look for the resort that would allow you to do the most things together. Whether that would be GF for all the tea parties and spas or whatever. If you can swing it I thing GF would we great.

My vote for that age would be the AKL- I'm taking my 15 year old son in December and it looks awesome for both of us. We also loved CBR as a moderate, because we love the Caribbean touch.

When I was a teenager, my favorite resorts were the Epcot resorts-particularly the Beach Club. I was "over" the MK (BTW, I'm now "over" that attitude ;) ), but I loved MGM and was really starting to get into Epcot. SAB was awesome, they have a good game room there, and I loved Beaches and Cream. Have you considered trying to book a studio at the BCV. You would be able to save at least the cost of 1 meal a day, even if you only have a microwave to cook with. That could be as little as $20 a day, or as much as $60 depending on what meal you managed to make at the room. It would be worth it to me to do that and stay in the Epcot Resort area.

I happen to love the MK resorts. I now prefer any of those resorts to the Epcot resorts; however, a teenager has some much to do in the Epcot resort area.

The only advice I can give you is that my 14 year old son and all his friends love the beach club. The proximity to Epcot and MGM seems to be the draw( plus all the 14 year old girls LOL)

If we don't go in the swimming months, would you still suggest Beach Clun since we wouldn't do Stortmalong Bay?

Maybe a moderate until 01/01/03 then a delux with w better rate if there is one.

If you are going for a deluxe, I would recommend any of the "Epcot" deluxes (Swan/Dolphin, YC/BC, or BWI) for the reasons stated before, convience to Epcot and MGM and the proximity to Boardwalk. If you are going to a moderate, I would suggest either POR (which is beautiful, has lots of fun stuff to do, and has the boat ride to DTD) or CBR (if the girls like beaches, this is the place with all the beaches and hammocks and such).

"If we don't go in the swimming months, would you still suggest Beach Clun since we wouldn't do Stortmalong Bay?"

For my son and his friends Stormalong Bay isn't the draw, its the location. All of them have now put in their two cents reading over my shoulder and say Beach Club!! )They also want to know if she's cute!!. How things change when they hit puberty.

Hands down, having a 14-year-old daughter myself, I would have to say the Boardwalk. I would extend that to the Beach Club area, also, since you can walk to the Boardwalk from there, but my daughter and her friends adore the boardwalk itself.

As a parent to kids that are now young adults but when they were younger spent many trips at the Epcot resorts, my vote would definitly be for an Epcot resort. My kids still love the Epcot resorts the most out of all the different WDW resorts they have stayed at, and they have stayed in almost every WDW resort. Your niece will love an Epcot resort, it is so convenient, there is so much to do and there are usually a fair number of other teenage guests at these resorts.
