Where would you stay if....

Thanks J&R'smom. We ARE going to the parks, for about 7-8 days prior to our needing 'relaxation' time, thus the need for said time.
I am getting more and more confused by the hour. We had a cruise planned, but the cost was just too much for us right now, so we had to cancel, leaving us in need of a nice 'hangin out' resort. It's over Thanksgiving as well, so I need to get on it!

Thanks again, and sorry to hijack the thread. Hopefully the OP will take a few days at the parks though!

I would either stay at AKL or one of the Epcot/Boardwalk area resorts.

Well, WL does have fairly easy access to the monorail resorts and to Fort Wilderness - where there IS 'stuff to do'
If you plan to do a lot of relaxing by the pool time, how about Yacht & Beach Club for Stormalong Bay?
Or, rent points from a DVC member and stay at WLV or BCV? Or even OKW or SSR, where you have ferry access to Downtown Disney, as well as activities at the resorts?

I'm sorry but I just can't imagine not going to the parks. There are so many other wonderful places in this country alone that i would visit before doing just a resort stay. But as my mom likes to say, Each to His Own! and I hope you have a wonderful time.

That said, I guess if I had to choose, the Boardwalk area would be my choice.

oh and by the way, Spectromagic is not the light parade on the lagoon. Spectromagic occurs in the Magic Kingdom on select nights. The parade on the lagoon is a series of lighted barges.

Another vote for WL...kiddie pool, playground, beach, nice walk to FW, take the kids to see the horses, campfire, etc, free arts & crafts for the kids in the cubs den daily, cubs den babysitting, boat rides, can watch the MK fireworks from the top of the Contemporary for free...I would still go to MK for atleast one or two days....

Wow,I'm sort of surprised there aren't more votes for AKL. But maybe it is a little isolated. I think if I was not going to go to a park, I'd consider concierge level, depending on the time of year. It would be very hard for me to avoid the parks though...but if I had to avoid the parks, it would be a whole lot easier in one of those awsome suites they have at AKL.

Then again, the Epcot area has much to offer. I just don't think I could stand being that close to Epcot without going in... From the back entrance you can almost hear the cars of the test track wooshing around.

Beach Club. Stormalong Bay and Boardwalk access would work for me. Not to mention that I could sneak over to the World Showcase in the evening.

I would take the kids to ALL Star Movies.
It is like a Disney Movie Fantasyland.
The big pool has Mickey.
There is a really cool kiddie pool for little ones.
The theaming will wow your little one. A three story tall Woody. Buzz is there also. The dalmations are everywhere. They have a playground for children.
The food court has a varity of choices. There is even an area with a movie screen and movies to keep them entertained while eating.
There is a pool bar right by the pool for the adults and plenty of lounge chairs by the pool to relax in.

The Fantasia Buildings are the preferred buildings.
The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.
It is a great place to stay .
Preschoolers love it.

I am 55 years old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of the Magic and that is where I want to be.

I love the All Star Resorts --they can't be beat. I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?

IMO staying at a WDW resort without going to the parks AT ALL is like pancakes without syrup, a dog without a bone or worst yet Mickey without Minnie. But that's only MY opinion and something I couldn't do. If you really wanted to though, I'd suggest YC/BC, WL or POLY.

I would rent points and stay at the DVC suites at the Beach Club. You could enjoy the Boardwalk, Stormalong Bay, and have a great home for relaxing.

With the ages of your children, I would go to WL. If I had preteens or older I would do the Boardwalk or YC/BC, but with a two year old and a baby, the WL gets my vote. It has a very relaxing atmosphere and great access to the monorail hotels and FW with their many activities.

Tho I haven't actually gone to WDW yet (May 2006) I'd choose the camp grounds (don't recall name). If I wasn't going to the parks, I enjoy the camping feeling, there seem to be a lot to do.

Well this is tough b/c I could never go anywhere near WDW without doing the parks but if I did, I would choose one of the Epcot resorts like YC/BC or Boardwalk-there is so much to do right in walking distance.

Do you mean a spa like the GF's spa (not a jacuzzi). I thought I heard/ saw something about massages avail at AKL...maybe there's not a full blown spa but there are some services available? Could of been somewhere else...

As far as jacuzzis, I love the two they have nestled around the pool area. Fantastic place to relax!

Another vote for the GF...and second might be the Boardwalk. It has such unusual and beautiful decor
