Where would you never, ever, stay off-site?

I'm not sure which made me laugh more....the bullet proof glass story or cameraguy's very first dis post. :rotfl2:

My hotel of shame doesn't exist anymore but my dh still makes fun of me for booking us there on Priceline (in fact, he brought it up again just yesterday!). The Nikki Bird. Not only did our room fridge not work (but at least they didn't charge us for it) but the pool was so cloudy a small child could sink to the bottom and drown and no one would be the wiser. I'm only allowed to book at a Marriott forevermore.

Would you believe the bullet proof glass place IS the NIKKI BIRD! It was changed to the Home Suite Home and has probably gone considerably downhill.

OMG, I am ROTFLOLPIMP :rotfl2:

I'm sure your story brought up my buried memories of our stay there.....

:lmao::lmao: That's too funny. We passed home suite home in January and my FIL was like look at that what a great price. I was like...:scared1::scared1: NOOO!!!

Do you work for Loyalty? Because there is no way (honestly) you could say this house was nice. And trust me, IF there is ever new furniture.....they will post it the next day. I can't believe you are telling people if the house doesn't match the pictures, it's because they've upgraded. That's a good one.:laughing::laughing:

Just my opinion, and thanks for letting me both have one, and express it. I don't spend nearly the amount of time living on this board as you...so forgive me for having a different experience. Apparently, this board IS like the others..dominated by a few who completely forget it's true purpose and value. I can't find anything in the FAQ about a first post not having validity....can first posts only be negative? Do I have to post 499 times(soon to be 500) in order to have credibility? I can't find the cutesy animated Icon that stands for "WHATEVER"

Both are located on 192 (also called W Irlo Bronson Hwy). We were told they had the same owner, and we saw staff go between the 2 hotels.

We stayed at the Howard Johnson Maingate East, and it had maintenance problems, problems with theft, and safety issues.

The water was scalding hot (we got burned), the rooms were poorly maintained (the faucet wasn't anchored to the sink), and there were cleanliness issues (the coffee cups hadn't been replaced). The guy checking out ahead of us had filed a police report due to having his hubcaps stolen, as had several other guests

The staff evidently was used to lots of complaints, as they didn't blink an eye when we told them the rooms had problems.

They also will put you in smoking rooms and call them non-smoking. They also had us change rooms in the middle of our stay, as they had booked our room for 2 of our nights. So we got to see 3 rooms during our week stay--and we were less impressed with each one. While we were expecting an older motel, we weren't expecting the issues we saw at this hotel.

We stayed there because I had hotel points to use--but never again.

Speaking of Nikki Bird, does anyone remember the Econolodge across the street? I think I paid 27.99/nt. in 2002. We only stayed 1 nt. It smelled bad and lacked that safe feeling.

Well, it wasn't scary, but we had a bad experience with the Nick Hotel recently, and wouldn't go back....I know others like it, though....

We had a problem with the Sheraton Safari. I won this hotel on Priceline and we did arrive late at night but...........this hotel was packed. First problem parking...okay...so there was an event. After going round and round with no open spaces, DH went back to the lobby and snagged a security person. She got into the back seat and guided us to the loading area and had us manuver our rental into a spot. When we got to the room, there was a floor fan drying the wet carpet. There was a faint aroma of wet urine. I sent poor DH back to the counter at that late hour, while I waited with our luggage in the hallway. He comes back with a key to another room. We drag our luggage to the room and I guess it was a smoking room. For those who say you're not guaranteed a non-smoking room..fine...live and learn. This is the LAST time I try to fall asleep smelling some else's residual smoke.

Don't ever stay in the Sheraton Four Points across from Old Town in Kissimmee. We "won" it in a school auction and I knew it was bad when they had no bell service and the security guy "guided" us to our door and told us to make sure we locked it right away. The room was old and things were broken and missing in the room. Never, ever, ever again. We always stay on-site and are always happy. Just not worth it to me to not stay at a Disney hotel...we live close and go often. Last summer we loved Old Key West and last week went to Port Orleans Riverside. Both were awesome. Another very favorite is Animal Kingdom Lodge. You really DO get what you pay for! :yay:

One thing for sure is if you don't know the area your chances of booking a bad hotel goes up.For example I live in Miami and have stayed in hotels in Orlando hundreds of times so I know which areas are OK, for example there's no way I stay at any hotel east of 535 on 192.Also many of the cheapest hotels on websites like Orbitz or Travelocity are not good,I might stay at a couple of them because I know the area and hotel, but if you don't know that you're bound to stay somewhere you'll end up regretting. However I've been using Hotwire for years now and have gotten amazing deals on great hotels, for example I just stayed at the Rosen Centre on International Drive, priced at $269 a night on the hotels website,I got it for for $42 on Hotwire, now that's probably the best ever deal I've gotten with them but most of the time rooms that go for $100-$140 a night I would get for $35-$65.

Doom - are you married to the appliance direct guy out of Gainesville??? I about spit coke out of my nose when I saw your signature.

I would never ever stay at this place!

OCALA, Fla. — Authorities say a Marion County motel manager hid a camera to record at least one of the guests taking a shower. A woman staying at the Tall Pines Motel in Ocklawaha told deputies her shower had been broken for three days and she had been using the manager's. She said she found the camera in the floor vent. The manager acknowledged that he put it there to look at naked people. Link
